Live game, I built my stack up over a few hours and by time I got over $900+, guy on my right with a huge stack was clearly intimidated by me even though he has joke a few times "We'll have to play a $3,000 pot soon." We both have about $1400 to start this hand.

There's a Mississippi straddle on button to $6, SB calls, BB calls, villain UTG calls. I make it $30, everyone folds to UTG. He says, "Well, this could be it!" He calls.

Flop ($78): :qh4: :4c4: :7s4:

He checks, I bet $55, he calls

Turn: ($188): :jd4:
He checks, I bet $120, he calls

River: ($428): :qd4:
He checks. Hero?

I want to check back. He could play AQ/KQ like this but then again, most people in a love game would just donk bet river. He could definitely play sets this way.

We really only beat his 88-TT/AJ and I don't know of he's the type of play to hang on to those middle pairs after two streets of betting. If I were to b/f though I'd probably bet anywhere from a quarter to half pot.

Check behind.

C/c c/c c...don't like his line. I think its air or you're behind most of the time.

Relying on a midpairish herocall to get more value on the river..don't like it.

What part of his range that we beat are we hoping he turns up with and calls...88-TT? Maybe some aj that decided to float?

I check behind.
What jacks can villain hold here that call the flop out of position? None imo. (bar QJ )
KK is all you get value from, its negated as it may raise pre and may fold the river and is vastly outnumbered by JJ/QQ/44/77/QJ/KQ/AQ

Sets/boats should be negated to a large degree for never raising and checking river.

ye. Although Qx is the main threat combinatorically here.

That and nits love to slowplay. Wouldn't surprise me if the guys so scared of playing this deep 44 gets check/called down. Live nits can be really really passive with their value ranges.

Main thing is that next to nothing we have beat calls.

He really can't have KK since he called the straddle and then called the raise. If he's the least bit curious I think you can expect to get looked up with 88-TT though.

I checked back and won, and he didn't show. I really think he had KK. He seemed shaken up after the hand.

You think he just flats the straddle with KK?

IDK, it's weird. Maybe because he was in EP. TT might be more likely.

i dont konw what kind of straddle that is and the rules about it, but i think its entirely plausible that he doesnt wanna repop KK here pre because youre both so many BIs deep, plus like you said he could be getting funky with it cos hes UTG

Mississippi straddle is posted by BTN, and SB is first to act preflop instead of UTG, which means BTN is last to act on all streets.
