SB with JTdd, I start the hand with $174

UTG limps, folds to late MP who bets $12, Folds to me, I call, BB calls, UTG calls.

Flop: 10c6x4x

Checks to MP, who bets $17, table calls.

Turn: Jc

I lead for $55, UTG calls, rest fold. I have no specific reads on UTG but I can't remember any point where I thought he was way out of line. He bought in with a $500 chip and has about $400 left now after maybe an hour.

River: 8x

This isn't a good river, but the pot is $226 and I have $107 remaining, I open ship after some thought. I was thinking he could have a few Js and maybe some worse 2 pair combos that didn't raise in addition to a few straight combos to call. I thought a set would have raised flop.

UTG shows 79s for a 4 outed straight

On the turn the pot was $116 and I didn't want to open ship for $157 - I can't see that I'm ever getting called by worse except exactly 64s that I didn't think he had in his UTG limp range. If I bet larger I have almost nothing left for the river shove. Also, I thought about a check-raise all-in, but I was almost certain it was going to check through (MP was Cbetting nearly 100% then giving up so the table likely called light).

Why did you call preflop? Fold this preflop, you aren't doing yourself any favors.

You have TP on the flop, good job, call that bet. Turned top 2pair, great.

River you still have 2pair, and its just very unlikely he has a straight. A set is possible, but so is top pair or even an over pair that he played funky.

No reason not to get it in there.

Fold this preflop unless you are deep and have some reads. You could also 3bet it here I guess. I would prefer a 3bet to a call here with that hand, but folding is better still (most of the time).

Have to agree with Uber...fold pre mainly because UTG has limped and is still to act behind you. If he raises thats $12 down the pan. If you had a raise and a call in front of you and you are closing the action then sure give it a go, but not here.

Pretty much this..

As played, I think you butchered the turn a bit.

We have $157 with a pot of $117. This gives us a Stack-to-pot ratio (SPR) of 1.3, effectively open shove HERE, is better since we are now committed into the hand with top 2 pair.

tl;dr of SPR: lower SPR benefits hands where we can commit to the pot.

thinking of turn check/raise is symptoms of fancy play syndrome.
