First, the blinds are $2/$3 and cards chat do not have that option. I think i played my hand pretty bad after it got to showdown. Before i post hands i would like to share my previous history on that day.

I sat down around 9:30 pm and it was about 1am. Still pretty focused and in the live casino where i play, tables get broken when its short handed and will be merged.

So this is the third time i was broken down and moved to a new table. I had about $250 in profit so i chipped down and played $150 starting stack in the new table(50bb).

Fourth hand in, UTG limps for $3 HJ raises for $10, CO calls for $10, BTN calls for $10. I am in the SB with AcKs and i raise it to $40.

BB:Folds
SB:Shoves all in for $74
HJ:Calls another $34 ($300)
CO ($500) and BTN ($300); Folds
I flat $34

Flop is 7h7d4c

I check and HJ check

Turn is 9s

I check and HJ check

River is Ks

I check and HJ checks

I may have lost value bet on the river and also i should have figured the stack to pot ratio on the flop.

Should i have shoved pre? He was old chinese man, who did not look like a bluffer to me.

Essentially, i could be against QQ or JJ. Why risk additional 30bb, where i could flat and see the flop?

What do you guys do when you miss your 3 bet pot with AK? Cbet? Double barrel? Multi way pot? Heads up pot?

#1.

Why did you "chip down"? Why would you willingly play with 50 BB? Besides the fact that I don't even think you are allowed to do this, why would you want to?

#2

Now, because of #1, you are in a goofy spot preflop. It's an easy flat call pre with the action, if you have to 100BB+. But now, yes we should probably shove pre. But we shouldn't be in this spot, because we should be playing with a full stack. We could still have room to navigate postflop (if we were deeper), and we would also still have at least some FE, if we shove for $300+, instead of $150.

Now we have really no FE. So, the given play with your stack is to shove, but it's more like gambling, less like skill. You're probably gonna be flipping a coin, as opposed to having FE and flipping a coin (because you get called less with bigger stack, thus FE+48%+/- = more %)

And 3b should be way bigger here preflop. I'd go $60-$75, and shove all flops, or just shove (because you have a goofy stack size).

So, because you "chipped down", and you fail to shove in this spot pre, it seems to say you are too attached to the money. You are playing scared. With your stack, we should be shoving pre, thus realizing the full equity of AK by seeing all 5 cards.

Chips are power. Don't go south, and take them off the table. Accumulate as many of them as you can, and use them to win more chips.

And yes, as played, jam river. What do you have to hit to feel good about the hand? K-K-K on the flop?

That is absolutely right. 1)I should have raised to $60 pre and also 2)shoved on the flop due to SPR. 3)Then i should have shoved on the river.

Dont know the fourth one?

Hence, title, AK played horribly.

Don't chip down. Play with a full stack.

Raise bigger on the flop, 60$ or so, planning to shove nearly all flops.
As played, with a full stack, flatting at the end is probably fine. With your half-stack, you should shove in that spot.

As played, definitely shove the river.

Live tables. Guy makes a 6X or 7X 3 bet, which is 20-25 times the BB. Then shoves a 774 rainbow flop. What hand is he trying to protect really? This screams AQ/AK. I snap call guys overplaying AQ/AK in this spot all the time. Occasionally a guy shows up with a higher pocket pair, but it has always been a profitable play.

Also, I generally agree with the full buy in notion. But occasionally I'll buyin with a half stack. Alot of times, at say 1/2, you'll see a 8-10 X open, which is fairly common. Then flat, flat, flat. My mentality not playing a full stack is to play my hand agressively preflop, generally allin.

For instance-- 50 BB deep
A. A guy opens 7-10 X. Then see a call, call, call. If I have 10 10 or better, just jam it. Pocket 10's the ablsolute bottom of my range.
B. Or in more early position-- either open 7-10X, or flat an open , and shove to a call, 3bet or just a 3bet behind me. Again with pocket 10's or better.

You'll fold out most A10 and AJ, get called often by AQ/AK, get called often by underpairs and occasionally guy will up with a bigger pocket pair.

But in general, I've done well over the long run with this approach while short stacking. I will say, I'd typically not utilize this approach when deep stacked-- 100BB or more.

Additionally, when short stack shoving style is being used, I see suited connectors, ie, 78, j10, QJ call off occasionally, which are obviously post flop hands.
