$200 NL HE Full Ring: $100 NL HE Full Ring: Mississippi Straddle

Hello,

i was playing live, full ring game, $1/$2 blinds.

my stack is roughly $100.

im small blind.

villain, in button, makes a straddle bet to $10.

i get dealt AQ off.

i raise to $20, everyone else folds, button calls.

flop: A88.

i bet pot ($40), get reraised to $80. i call.

villain shows 86 off. turn and river dont help.

what would you have done? was it a lousy call or did he get lucky?

-------------------

i think that in order to have lost less money on that hand i should have done:

1) reraise at least $50 preflop, so villain would have folded right there

or

2) check the flop, because he had a mighty stack and was a fairly loose player, so he could have called with rags preflop, and wasnt willing to lose those $10 having possition over me. also, when he reraised me on the flop, i thought he was just trying to push me out of the pot, thats why i called.

i think i should have checked the flop.

what do you think?

not sure what u mean $10 straddle on the button but no matter....
if he has $10 out there and u only make it $10 more he's priced in to calling especially with what he assumes are 2 live cards. and when the folp comes down with u having only $80 or so behind its all going in

I think the big reason this hand turned into a problem is because you are playing with 50xbb stack.

Next time if you've only got $100 with you, just buy in short stacked 20-30xbb ($40-$60 @ 1/2) and push preflop.

Eh, i don't see how he would fold preflop.. He's getting the right odds to call. I think the hands played themselves after that but next time buy in for 100 bb.

so you're effectively playing 10 BBs deep this hand?

just open shove preflop i guess?
