This was a $1/$3 live game I played at a casino with a $200 max buy-in. It was the very first hand I was dealt and thus I posted $3 from the CO because I generally prefer to start my session in late position rather than starting from the BB.

Villain (BB) has $1000 stack
Villain 2 (MP2) has $200 stack
Hero (CO) has $200 stack

Hero is dealt Ad 8c
SB posts $1, BB posts $3, Hero (CO) posts $3

Folds to MP2 who limps in for $3
I check in the CO
Folds to BB who also checks

$10 in pot (3 players)
Flop shows Ac 7c 8s

BB checks
MP2 bets $7
Hero raises to $21
BB calls $21
MP2 calls $14

$66 in pot (3 players)
Turn shows 9h

BB checks
MP2 checks
Hero bets $50
BB raises to $150
MP2 folds
Hero shoves ALL-IN for $176

What do you think about the way I played this hand? I will say that I tanked for a long time after I got check-raised on the turn. I wasn't loving it at all, but I felt that I was just about committed to stacking off at that point.

No raise preflop?

As played, if you're calling the check-raise, you might as well shove. Those 26$ are going in anyway.

I had A8o and didn't think it was good enough to raise preflop. I would've just folded preflop if I wasn't posting.

Yeah I know that calling the check-raise commits me to stacking off, but the question is: do I need to call the check-raise, or can I find a fold?

Depends how aggressive this guy is, and if he can push a good draw this way (like, say KcQc) or a worse two-pair (87/98).
Online, this is a call, imo. Live, I think you can find a fold when he check-raises.

Villain flatting the flop reduces the chances he's made a set, but it could be there.

My guess before the checkraise is villain has something like 56s, 8c9c, 78s, 9c10c, KcXc. If villain has 78s or 89s and wants to avoid calling an overbet on the river he/she may check raise the turn hoping to get either a fold or freeze you on the River with another check raise threat. If you go over the top on the turn, he knows 78 and 89 are dead and avoids paying off a large river bet..... But considering your stack size, this is highly unlikely. So the villain either has a monster draw or the made straight.

The 56 straight is totally possible but has to be there over 1/2 of the time for your play to be a losing play. You risked $50 to win $66, then $176 to win $206. Because of your stack size, I'd say you made the right play.

If you both had like $400 behind and you make the same move, then that's a mistake. You should check.

Checking the turn isnt so bad either because you will have great odds to call a decent river bet. You don't want to give the flush/straight draws free cards, but two pair is very likely here as well and as long as you avoid one of the 14 scare cards on the River, it's an easy call.

id guess he'd raise 77/88 at least half the time pf, and also fold 56 on the flop most of the time.. I'd be getting it in here, nh
