Hero ($720) has been playing rather tight - - I've been here for an hour and played maybe 4 hands, showed down AA once to win a $250 pot.

Villain ($ covers) and Hero have history, I've played a lot with him, he is not a fish. Me and V have been in one other hand, where I folded to his raise, and he has seen me fold to a preflop 3bet once after raising in MP.

Preflop:

Hero is BB with AdKs

Utg limps, UTG +1 raises to $10, Villain in MP calls, MP calls, CO calls ($45)

Hero raises to $65, only Villain calls. ($165 in the pot)

Flop: AsKcQc

Hero leads for $120

Villain raises to $375

Fold or put the rest in? (we are getting snapped called, obviously)

What do you put him on? Thinking back on it I wish I would have folded, it was so marginal - even at the table I figured I was 50/50 to be good here. If I'm ahead I'm waaay ahead, if behind...

I didn't think he had JTo, if he had the straight it had to be with JTs, and I didn't think he would raise with JcTc (what's he worried about?).

Thoughts?

We have an SPR of about 4 on the flop. Do you think villian is capable of doing this with Axcc? Also has villian shown any aggression at the table tonight?

I feel that he is capable of raising with AJcc or ATcc at least some of the time. I actually decided to shove because I didn't have the Ac in my hand - I had decided I was folding if I had it.

With this SPR, you gotta put it in.

Pot is too big to fold top 2 with all those draws out there imho....you are getting it in, and if he has QQ or made a call with J10, then sobeit.

Do we all like the 32.5 BB raise out of the Blinds with AK?

I dunno, I would like to play AK and AQ more effectively in these situations as well.

Irregardless of the actual result, in the long run, you are way ahead 60% of the time.

On this spot, you have to pay him off if he has already a big hand.

I'm glad everyone agrees with putting it in. Villain showed up with QQ, which is the same as JT really. I actually turned an A, then he rivered a Q... I laughed a little, told him nice hand, and walked away.

If I didn't raise preflop I could have gotten away on the turn/river, and maybe even the flop depending on the action.

I don't always 3Bet AKo OOP in $1/$2 live, but in this situation I think it was the right action. The table really only had two bad players (the UTG and CO) and I was fairly confident I would end up heads up or 2 handed to the flop. I planned to request a new table after the button passed me.... oh well.

This is a terrible, horrible thought process. Getting more money in preflop with AK is rarely a bad thing.

Really, in a cash game OOP?

I am not sure about that thought process...a lot depends on who we are playing with. Remember if called USUALLY we will whiff flop/ whiff huge draw flops where we happily put it in.

Yeah I don't see any real way to be folding that flop, ship it in. This can be AQ, Axcc... and obviously personal history plays a bit of a role here but as you say, JT is something he's more likely to call with than raise so he doesn't lose value or scare you off. And we have a small number of boat outs if he is ahead.

As played just bad luck.

Nope never folding this hand. If I didn't 3 bet and let several people play then I would proceed the flop with caution as JT is a real possibility. However as you said the turn is an A so obviously we are not getting away from this in a million years regardless of how we play it.

Are you serious? We have the nuts on the turn and the second nuts on the river.

It's a call - villain shows up with TJ sometimes but I can see a lot of AcTc hands trying to move you off. I also think villain would be more inclined to raise combo draws rather than raise sets or TJ. However, I wouldn't even rule out QQQ. I think your beat here a fair bit but based on calling odds and your opponents hand range getting it in is still +ev.

I also agree that if you have the Ac it is a fold. All the Ax hands that are trying to push you off here make this a profitable call, if you have the nut flush blocker then your hand loses considerable equity

If this player is as competent as you claim be prepared to see TJ sometimes,

a bad player would likely raise with the NUTS without consideration as to why they are doing so.

A more skilled player would probably flat

but if he's on level 3 then raising with TJ in his mind is strong because it looks strong, which means you interpret it as weak. Now its your turn to figure out whats going on in his head.

Why wouldn't you raise with JT? Too many turn cards ruin the hand.
