Straddle
Fairly new player to table no info raises to $17 ..
villain is 20 to 30 years old.

defend my straddle cards are xx haven't looked yet.

FLOP is KQJ RAINBOW
i check blind
new player goes all in.

hmm time to range villain

AK,KK, QQ, JJ, KQS

look at my cards to find 9Td
the one hand that beets me is AT .. highly unlikely that there was a raise with this.

Made the call even though I only have the idiot end of the straight.

Straight holds.

pretty new to winning poker, just started to do some studying, also new to live cash game.

You can easily study cases like this where you have range figured out using tools like Equilab.

Against range you gave, you have massive lead 76% so obviously a call. But I would that that pro tip by @Omaha It's quite unlikely someone with nuts shoves like that, but some do with top pair + draw, second pair + draw.

First:

Why are you straddling UTG? This is a fools bet. And like many others who straddle, you just defend anyways with ATC, OOP. Yeah, this is silly.

Second:

Why don't you even look before you call pre? It just shows how much you need to learn. The cards don't even matter to you, the only thing that matters is defending that straddle. This is a pretty bad way to play.



Don't straddle. It's a bad decision. If you do straddle, at least try to play correct poker, perhaps look at your cards before deciding preflop....

the table was playing super tight and wanted to get some action going. was extremely lucky.
today bought in with 50BB -$100
lost a flip

bought in with 40BB-$80
left with 150 BB -$300 1hour playing time,,,table got short handed so it was time to go,
thanks for advice

All straddling does is make the effective stacks so much smapler

I would say don't straddle and do look at your cards.Calling $17 blind is a waste of money.
