$200 NL HE 6-max: I river a boat, and think betting is a mistake.

Villain is a non-idiot LAG (I don't think he's necessarily a great player, but his stats are somewhat reasonable for his style).

Hero...

I ended up shoving (which gave him a price of 3:1 to call the river) but in retrospect I think shoving is a mistake and check/calling (or check/raising, if for some reason he doesn't bet all-in) is the way to go.

Do you really expect him to bet everything in his range on the river or is he just going to check behind with his TP hands. I personally like the river shove because I think too often he has a King here and will just check behind. Plus your bet is offering him decent odds to look you up, imo.

Why didn't you just shove the turn, its not much bigger than a pot-sized raise.

I assume you're check/calling because villain's range is JT/9T type stuff and boats that are bigger than yours. And you're check/calling because he'll bluff some of those missed weak draws. And you think it doesn't make sense for him to have 55/KQ/Q5 in his range because he'd raise those preflop or Q5 just sucks. So his range contains tons of air, so we should let him bluff.

However, I don't think villain is ever bluffing here if he's non-terrible because you're getting such good odds on a river call. And if there are any kings in his range, he is certainly going to take a free showdown.

I like the big overbet by shoving, making ur hand look somewhat weak.

i think shoving is pretty good, esp because it's possible you're bluffing, and he'll be checking behind a lot of hands

Btw, just to add to the discussion, I think the LAG's range after the turn call is:

Hands he's willing to stack: K3s, K5s, Q3s, Q5s
Draws: JT, J9, 9T
Floats: Mostly pairs that he's willing to turn into bluffs (queens that possibly have backdoor flush/straight draws, such as Q♠10♠, A3 type stuff as well.)

It's possible that I should have. On the turn, in the spur of the moment, I couldn't come up with any hand that made sense for him (barring maybe K5s or similar big/little two pair hands) so I went ahead and made a small 3-bet hoping he'd shove and was genuinely surprised when he called. Then the queen paired on the river and I had time to think "there's no way you overlimped with KQ" before I shoved.

His turn call is SICK. If your read is good (good player/Lag). I don't think you are ahead of his range.
If your image is solid/tight, not doing some bordelines moves, a c/f could be reasonnable (even if so difficult 100bb deep)..
