Hero checks, BB checks, BTN bets $1.57, Hero calls $1.57,

Villian is the only competent reg at 20PL on iPoker, here I'm a bit confused as what to do. I was tempted to check raise, but being 3bet would mean giving up all the equity I have in the pot and to me, doesn't seem like the best option. I dont think I am ahead of his 3betting range. Of course if he flats, I could rep clubs, fire blanks, and of course the cards like a 6, straight cards etc. Now am I wrong in not wanting to check raise simply in fear of being 3bet?

I elected to check call simply because I wasn't sure as to the best course of action and there fore took the "safest" route. Any and all advice appreciated.
Thanks.

You should reconsider your definition of competent if he's 18/13 over a large sample.

Definitely check-raise, we have 47% vs. top set w/no clubs and 42% vs. something like AKQJ with the nut flush draw.

If he 3-bets it's good, cuz then we can 4-bet.

A simple rule of thumb is pot it when you reach 53% equity, and u r not there yet, so if unsure I would call. 47% puts you ahead yes, and raising is a good line also, but something to be said for seeing another card before committing, given villain's very nitty agro numbers.
Equitywise yr wrap beats his draws but if he catches you are toast... and he ain't folding...
