€20 NL HE 6-max: Getting value on the river

Villian Stats (VPIP/PFR/AF): 30/22/1.71

First of all, some info on the villain. I had notes on him that he was a total calling station, and will chase flush draws all in.

Here I am interesting in bet-sizing mostly on the river, but flop/turn as well

€0.10/€0.20 No Limit Holdem
Entraction
5 Players
Hand Conversion Powered by weaktight.com

Stacks:
UTG Hero (€114.77)
CO ddqwe (€27.53)
BTN TehPeruna (€31.60)
SB Neolay (€32.88)
BB FromOngame (€20)

Pre-Flop: (€0.30, 5 players) Hero is UTG A J
Hero raises to €0.70, 1 fold, TehPeruna calls €0.70, 2 folds

Flop: J 9 3 (€1.70, 2 players)
Hero bets €1.70, TehPeruna calls €1.70

Turn: J (€5.10, 2 players)
Hero bets €4, TehPeruna calls €4

River: A (€13.10, 2 players)
Hero ?????

Flop/turn bets are fine. I think no matter the size of your river bet, it won't really influence whether he will call or not. So bet ~pot.

Then we should be shoving.

Ok, everyone in agreement so I can give up the result.

I bet the pot, he folded, hence the thread. I guess he didn't have a flush draw after all.

Now I think, maybe I was wrong to bet that much, if he had a flush he would raise a low bet for sure, and if he didn't he would fold to a pot-sized bet.

But might call smaller bet with say a 3€ bet, that looks scared and might even induce a bluff

Which reasoning is better

I highly doubt villain will be tricky enough to bluff a weakish looking bet. You're always better off going for max value vs a calling station. In this instance you were up against the bottom of his range unfortunately but it's still a profitable line.
