yeah Chuck I have calmed down but it has pretty much been miracle after miracle falling against me this week. Might be different if I was playing freerolls but as you see it is real loot going away and then of course they piss away the loot they won soon after they win it to another player. Oh well I guess that is poker. Both those hand were especially brutal cause I raised preflop and it didn't eliminate the hands I lost to. Of course they were both hands I HAD to play.

Lucky your opponent was all in in the 1st hand, otherwise you could have lost even more! It hurts when he has the only 2 possible cards that can beat you, but he hit straight on the turn.

How did you copy summary like that?

Jeez XDman, I think I'd have to get up after those. Last night I was playing a limit ring game and I had A-K suited, flopped a flush, and lost to a small boat - guy called me down with 2 pair fours and dueces (he was in with 4-2o). Very next hand I'm in first position with a pair of fives, I call the big blind, everyone else folds. Flop comes 5-5-4. Got 4 fives, make minimum bet, all fold. There's no justice in the world...

The first one is just plain nasty.

The second one you have to question the guy calling the raise but you played it 100% right with the calls knowing the straight draw was against you. Some may have raised thinking "why is this guy calling a pre-flop raise holding a 5?"

I lost to a guy calling all-in pre-flop with 4 4 v my QQ and he hits a 3-7 straight. There goes another $80

Well X

The first hand I have to agree that was just nasty all the way around. The hand where you got trip 10's, well your play there leaves a little to be desired. First off I know pocket 10's aren't exactly AA before the flop, but you only raised a very small amount. I usually raise at least double what you did. And given the stakes you were playing at I would have likely raised more. The one who beat you only had a player behind them and knew they would call. I know 56 isn't the greatest hand in the world, but you gave them the chance to see a flop cheap. After the flop I would have bet the pot simply because there is a draw out there and you wanna make drawing hands either fold, or make a person pay a lot to see a card.

I know it's redundant, but you're better to win a small pot than to lose a big one.

Yea, so what's the beef? Just a couple bad beats. As everyone loves to say - THAT'S POKER. :D

There's all kinds of players out there.

KK - These guys don't think that. I've tried to say the same thing that its better to win a small pot than to lose a big one, but I get flack for saying it. Glad you said it.

tripling the blind wasn't enough obviously but I didn't let them see the flop for free, with THAT ragged, rainbow board when I flopped a set I thought I was completely safe! all low cards I don't know man kinda tough to not slow play that board. Yeah he hit a gutshot on the turn but how in the hell could I possibly think he had 5,6 off when I raised before the flop? Oh well I decided no more slow plays for me but flopping top set with a rainbow adn rags for the other cards, I don't know awfully hard not to try to bring him along for the ride! BTW Michele when you talk about better win a small pot than lose a large one. You should change that to better to win a medium pot than lose a large one I simply don't see the logic in firing at a 3 or 4 bet pot risk versus reward. To each his own but the first question I ask myself is "is this pot even worth contesting"?

Yes I know you do - I'll stick with what I said. First thing you should ask yourself is -- should I even be in this pot? LOL

The first one wasn't too bad but the second one i think was alittle misplayed. You checked the hand when you trips. Why? That is not strong enough hand to trap. I think the play should have been a very big bet to get the chasers out. Better to have some chips in your hand then to write another bad beat story.:marchmell

I called a bet with a set, trips is when 2 of the cards are on the board and 1 is in your hand just the opposite for a set

XD I dont care what some of these guys say, you had absolutely NO reason to think that he was on a straight draw. I think you played your hand in situation #2 as well as you could have, and you got outdrawn by an idiot. There is no reason to try and bet to take down the pot with that kind of flop, and you played it just right (trying to trap him). You just got beat by some idiot who caught a miracle...dont change your style of play.

Bubbas, It is not always better to take down a small pot than risk losing a big one...taking down a tiny pot when you have a great hand like that is a misplay 90% of the time.

I have to agree with Crippler - nothing wrong with slow-playing on that flop, in hindsight you would have been better driving him off pot, but these things happen. I personally don't agree with "better to win small pots" theory. You don't win many hands, so might as well make em pay when you do. I also don't particularly think opponent misplayed 2nd hand - just unfortunate.

I will play for the many small pots and stealing blinds rather than that one big pot. Over time I will accumulate more chips that way and get me further than just waiting for that one big hand. You still get that big hand along the way but you are passing up the opportunity to increase your chip lead. Why would I want to give away chips? That's just stupid. You will be waiting and winding up short stacked cause you wanted that big pot and letting other jerks limp along taking your pot. You should look at it this way.. which is better, if each week someone gave you $2 or you bought a lotto ticket and waited?
