Villian Stats (VPIP/PFR/AF): 24/8/8

Party Poker - $0.01/$0.02 No Limit Holdem (9 players)
Party Poker Hand Converter Tool from CardsChat.com

SB: $2
BB Hero: $2
UTG: $3.63
UTG+1: $1.48
MP: $0.93
MP+1: $2
MP+2: $2.11
CO: $1.27
BTN: $2

Pre-flop: ($0.03) Hero is BB and dealt :ac4: :qc4:
2 folds, MP raises to $0.06, 5 folds, Hero calls $0.04

Flop: ($0.13) :js4: :2h4: :qd4: (2 players)
Hero bets $0.10, MP calls $0.10

Turn: ($0.33) :js4: :2h4: :qd4: :4c4: (2 players)
Hero checks, MP checks

River: ($0.33) :js4: :2h4: :qd4: :4c4: :7h4: (2 players)
Hero bets $0.20, MP folds

Villain is kinda semi loose pasive with VPIP of 24 and PFR of 8 which is why I decided to call and not 3bet with AQo. The flop was great for me, giving me TPTK which is why I decided to donk value bet pre. What concerned me and caused me to slow down on the turn was that villain insta-called my bet so I felt villain must be strong.

I didn't think the turn helped villain but the insta call was on my mind so I decided to slow down and just checked the turn and possibly call a small turn bet. The river missed any draws so I decided to bet the river and villain folded.

The villain's insta-call signified strength but his actions on the turn and river show that he was probably on a straight draw. Any thoughts on the hand?

I like the donk but bet every street. Small bets should be fine keep AJ in as well as KQ and get ourselves an easy shove on the river. If your so scared of his small ofr your not willing to bet this flop you should fold pre.

Can't say I mind folding pre either but meh we are sooted and he's half stacked.

You don't mind folding pre? I want to 3-bet.

IME insta-calls signify a draw not strength when the player is passive.

Don't mind the call if the villain has an 8% pfr.

Really don't like the check on the turn. Bet pretty much always.

River bet is fine.

I hate shorties, short = fish/ bad reg who will prob stack off wider than AQ imo.

obv when we hit we prob get there stack, but calling and hitting a draw is pretty bad because we have no implied odds.. so I just prefer 3 betting.

maybe I'm too aggro/wrong.

Yea actually didn't look at stats. Still disagree that call=fold though. Against a 2NL player I expect playing a hand like this to have a significantly greater expectation that -1bb.

Yea I just looked at hand so playing 46BB effective stacks OOP my instinct was to 3-bet. Bearing in mind his tight open I think calling is reasonable (I'd still 3-bet this though)

you know how often fish spazz out?

I've been 6 bet shoved on with QJo..

8% is kinda tight relative to VPIP but I'm pretty sure he can open wider and call off wider than AQ, and I hate playing without the lead here.

fish gonna fish.

is that right?

Stack size+him being a fish=please 3bet ainec

Hand 0: 48.930% { AQs }
Hand 1: 51.070% { 8% }

Now this is under the assumption he calls with his entire range and his 8% PFR range is flat. In reality his range will be less than 8% so we'll be bigger dogs when called.
What are you doing when villain 4bets btw?

What range (%) do you think villain gets it in with?
Even if he stacked his entire range were only breaking even.

a dumb one. He's a shortstacked fish come on

Can't we afford to win less often because of his stack size or something? You know how to do pot odds and shit help

Yes we can but it's not very relevant when were only defending 1bb. That 1bb we have invested means we only need to win 49% of the time rather than 50% of the time to break even. Rather than putting in 93c to win 93c we are putting in 91c to win 95c.

*The smaller someones stack is the more significant the exisiting pot becomes (Lower STP ratio).
*The smaller someones stack is the wider they'll be prepared to get it in with. Hence generally we can get it in much lighter and see a profit.

However this hand is a strong exception to both rules.
-Villains opening range is so tight even if he stacks his entire range were still behind.
-When we make the decision to 3bet/stack our hand we only have 1bb invested so regardless of villains small stack size the pot is still insignificant.
This makes both the regular reasons we get it in light vs short stacks null and void.

Someone may point out I've not included villains preflop raise in the pot. This is because I'm going off the best case scenario were villain stacks his entire range and hence we have no fold equity so ignoring the times villain flats the 3bet (not a good scenario given alot of his range does not need to hit a flop, were OOP and the STP ratio is too small to outplay him) he may as well have open shoved from our perspective.
