SB had been playing loose all game, always calling the BB to see the flop and would call a pre-flop raise roughly 50% of the time.

Post-flop he either check-folds or calls, so I bet 3/4 pot, which he called. After that I don't really know why I raised post-turn, but I really think this was a mistake (this is only my second game). Any thoughts would be much appreciated, Thanks.

Your play was fine pre flop and also on the flop.

However the turn should have been an easy laydown for us after villain leads out.

Infact i think you made two huge mistakes on the turn. First by 3betting villain, Second by calling villain's 4bet.

You were plain lucky to win this hand. Villain tried to outplay you but nice to see atleast you knew in the end that you played the hand badly. That is a good thing - Realization.:)

I think because of the opponent, betting the flop or checking back is pretty close. That board is going to hit our opponents limp/call range a ton. Betting for me depends on how aggressive someone is.

But I need to put a quick beginner poker vocab check into this thread because I think I've literally read this about 5-6 times in the last two days in poker threads on here. Hero is not 3-betting the turn, they are 2-betting.

As played, I think w/o better info the turn is a fold, but as played you obviously need to call their turn 3-bet.

For me, even though the turn was a blank, when villain donks a pot sized bet and you have overcards... easy fold.

I would have to agree with most of the other posts here. Things got a little out of hand on the turn. lol. Preflop and the flop were both fine. Once the turn card is a blank for you and the villain leads out, you have to let him take this one. Even though the villain is a loose calling station, ANY pair has you drawing to 6 outs, so you just can't continue with the hand. Your description of the villains play tells me he is a loose/passive/calling station. He will give you PLENTY of chances to take his money. Don't try to play his game. When you get a hand you can bleed him dry. Good Luck

considering Villain is a fish and that we didn't hit the flop. I would checkback to control the pot and ensure we have another chance to improve our hand.
