Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has 8:heart: A:heart:

UTG raises to 3.5 BB, fold, fold, fold, fold, fold, Hero calls 3.5 BB, fold, fold

Flop: (8.5 BB, 2 players) J:heart: K:spade: 4:heart:
UTG bets 7 BB, Hero calls 7 BB

Turn: (22.5 BB, 2 players) J:spade:
UTG bets 16 BB, Hero calls 16 BB

River: (54.5 BB, 2 players) Q:spade:
UTG bets 26 BB, fold

As you can see UTG is a deep stacked whale, is it correct to assume I have high implied odds against guys like this and make this calls I wouldn't normally do?

Without any other reads (loves to bet one pair etc.) I think I fold the turn on this hand, since you do also have reverse implied odds if they have a full house or better when you hit your flush. (They did raise UTG after all so high pocket pairs are in their range).

I'm OK with calling a non board pairing card if you think you can get serious value after hitting the flush but there are also players who will slow down when the flush comes in and won't pay off enough to make calling profitable, so try to know your player before blindly calling.

GL at the tables! :)

Just fold the turn we rarely ever have enough odds to call.. Plus the board pairs so we could possibly be drawing dead.

80 vpip? Call all day.. may even have the best hand on turn. So.. forget implied odds you likely have direct odds (equity) vs his range.

Fold turn. Drawing dead to boats, and only one card left to come. Not so great implied odds and direct odds either.

Once the board pairs on the turn, I'm out.

Even if our overcard is good, we're still not getting enough odds to call here, and there are reverse implied odds of hitting a flush and being up against a boat.

Why not raise the flop and give up if you get re raised or you end up seeing till river

In general aggressive whales give up when they see aggression in a wet board or try and slow play sets. We should use our position

Yes, you have plenty to continue. I have no idea what everyone is talking about here honestly. The guy is a whale and will overplay a ton of second best hands, and you'll break him if he has Jx, and still get value if he has Kx/KQ. So calling is fine against someone like this. Vs. a reg though you should usually be raising the flop, or folding the turn.

John A is correct. His whale-ish nature makes it a call when it normally wouldn't be.
