Villian Stats (VPIP/PFR/AF): 25/15/33

Curious about what you guys think about this play?

PartyGaming - $0.02 NL - Holdem - 8 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 3

BB: $4.82
UTG: $2.17
Hero (UTG+1): $2.00
MP: $5.47
MP+1: $2.00
CO: $2.04
BTN: $0.57
SB: $0.41
SB posts SB $0.01, BB posts BB $0.02, MP+1 posts DB $0.02

Pre Flop: ($0.05) Hero has 8 8

UTG raises to $0.06, Hero calls $0.06, fold, MP+1 calls $0.04, fold, fold, fold, fold

Flop: ($0.21, 3 players) 5 5 9

UTG bets $0.13, Hero raises to $0.44, fold, UTG raises to $2.11 and is all-in, Hero calls $1.50 and is all-in

I was thinking I would protect my hand by raising and when he went all in I wasnt sure but thought I would stand up for my self. What would you guys do?

Turn: ($4.09, 2 players) K

River: ($4.09, 2 players) J

[spoil]Hero shows 8 8 (Two Pair, Eights and Fives) (Pre 81%, Flop 91%, Turn 95%)
[/spoil]

So would you guys call his all in?

...protect yourself? From what? You could already be beat here. Raising accomplishes him folding out everything you beat(over cards, draws, lower pairs) or him calling/raising with better hands (overpairs).

You didn't protect your hand, you turned it into a bluff(I.e. your raise tried to fold out better hands)

Call flop. Folding turn is standard based on his barreling tendencies. Given that he's UTG we're mostly folding turn. Don't raise for protection.

Yes I know it was meant to be a bluff. I wanted to try and make him fold all his broadway hands and pairs up to 1010 and any draw that could beat my hand. His stats tell me he could have all sorts of hands and a c-bet from him does not mean anything as it seems that everybody c-bets flops all the time (its like its mandatory). Im at work so cant look at his cbet stats just now.

Why would you want him to fold out a lot of the hands we beat?

To prevent him from drawing out on me on a later street. Just wanted to take the pot right there.

Don't do that. Raising for protection is terrible.

Damn, I thought it was a pretty smart move.

He actually turned out to have 66 so I got away with it :)
