Too tight imo. You're in position and it's a weak 3bet. If UTG+1 opened to 10c would you have called?

Possibility UTG could 4bet but 10s is too strong to fold here either way.

No stats? And yeah, it's not a huge raise, you're getting odds to set-mine, and you have some position. I'm calling.

5/10 rule: if calling costs 5% of the effective stack or less you should call with any pair, looking to hit a set.
If it costs between 5% and 10% of the effective stack, it's opponent-dependent, whether or not you think you can get him to pay off.
If it costs more than 10%, fold.

It costs 5%. I call, hoping this doesn't get squeezed by UTG.

The "rule" on how much implied odds you need to call raises preflop with pairs to set mine is a long ongoing debate in the poker community. Dan Harrington argues for 30:1, and that's the highest I've seen. Odds of flopping a set are ~8:1. So clearly it's somewhere in between. Obviously it depends on the two following very subjective things:

-How much you win when you make a set (sometimes they fold and don't give you their whole stack, sometimes you make a set and lose to bigger hands, ect.)
-How much you lose/win when you don't make a set (often people bleed money bluff catching or bluffing with small pairs).

Here, you're getting at least 19:1, and you have position and opponents with strong ranges. So it's a decent spot to set mine in my opinion, and your opponents are probably bad because it's 2NL. You probably have a +EV spot even when you don't make a set, because they'll be easy to read.

That's exactly why I like the 5/10 rule. Gives you 19:1 or better for sure and 9:1 or better as an "it depends". That's "somewhere in between", but above all: it's easy to remember and apply.

It's a sexy rule.

And pre in this hand, call.

I havent heard about this till now, seems easy to apply and fast to calculate while in a hand.

Thanks for sharing.

What is the source of this btw?

I first learned of this from a DeucesCracked video I saw several years ago.
I got reminded of it when going through John A's "Roots" training program.

Of course your fold was too tight. I think you just could call and see what comes at flop.

Do you think I would benefit from Johns roots program?

Absolutely!
It's high-quality stuff and very thorough - it'll also focus on some off-the-table elements that you didn't think even apply to poker. It's a gold-mine, imo, and of better quality than the stuff over at DeucesCracked, imo.

i just bought a month of dueces cracked yesterday lol. woops... mostly for baluga whale's videos because ive been reading his book, but although his book is good for my level, his videos are way over my head and geared towards much higher stakes.. lol

Ill check out johns program then. have you tried any of his other training things like the poker drills and poker coach?

I'm not saying that DeucesCracked is bad, though.
And if they haven't changed their policy since 2008/9, then you can download all the videos you want and you'll have access to them after your month ends. ;)

I've tried the Poker Drills trial. It's pretty interesting but a bit basic - it's mainly going to appeal to beginners, imo.
Haven't tried Poker Coach. Bought Leak Buster instead. :)

They haven't.
You can still download all video's on the site (and i mean ALL videos) to watch on a tablet/pc/smartphone (or keep them for future reference).
That's what i'm doing :)
