My blue line is tanking so I'm trying to find folds more, and also do better against loose passive players.

Am I too fearful of being beat here? I know it is not many hands against villain, though after playing more hands he did indeed prove to be around 40/0. These players don't tend to bet unless they have it.

First, no shame in tossing any hand, AA KK AQ, pairs, etc. If your gut tells you it might be fishy, odds are, he is sitting on 555, or 777, whatever trips you always seem to run into.

getting "great cards" doesn't guarantee a "great" outcome. A lot of times, the pot odds tell you AA is nice, but not always a winner.

Abosultey NEVER fold this imo. We are getting Insane pot odds! 20 BB! You bet 20 on the river, you have to call this. It is a mathematical NO to ever fold. No, absoutley no folding this river, even if he showed you a set. (well maybe then) Folding here is so passive that it is exploitable.

I normally don't try to point holes in people's game, but there are some great things you can find online about pot odds. It is an essential skill to know.

It looks like villain has AK, KQ, maybe KJ. You simply Cannot fold this.

Aces don't always win, but if you are going to bet the river, you are committed to call the river push, IMHO. Villain is unlikely to have a 3. but could have 77 or 88. She can also have called with KQ or KJ of spades and got sticky.

My game is full of holes, feel free!

I've read a ton about pot odds... actually I feel like I'm completely psyching myself out at the moment after making some bad calls and receiving some bad beats. Perhaps I need to just one table and go back to basics, really paying attention to every detail at the table, calculating the odds on every call, thinking hard on villain ranges etc, so basic stuff like this is not slipping past me. When I'm away from the table odds, ranges etc all make a ton of sense to me when I spend the time to think things through. At the table I feel rushed and under pressure, and things I've learnt go out the window. More than anything the inability to put the things I've learnt into practice is what holds me back at poker, I believe.

i wouldn’t fold AA in this position. Pot odds.

When 40/0 raises he has something villain thinks is super good like you have learned it seems. Here he can have some worse hands he decides are very good like {K9, KQ, AK, 79 etc} not all of them but some of them. Given we are getting pot odds 19% we can and imo should call here, sometimes we make a right choice by calling even though we know we are mostly beat.

Bet sizes: Against fish, bet so big every street that you can get AI on the river, especially if he is not full stack.

As others have said, no way I fold there. I would be willing to wager a significant sum that he had K9; even more if you also give me AK and KQ. If he had a set he would just have to show me.

Yep would definitely call off. And as said would also raise bigger on turn e.g. such that I could river myself.
