Hero (UTG+1): $2.43
MP: $1.59
CO: $0.59
BTN: $2.09
SB: $1.01
BB: $1.22
UTG: $4.71

Pre Flop: ($0.03) Hero is UTG+1 with A :club: J
UTG calls $0.02, Hero raises to $0.10, 4 folds, BB calls $0.08, 1 fold

Flop: ($0.23) Q :club: J :diamond: Q :diamond: (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $0.16, BB raises to $0.36, Hero folds

Villain is 32 / 11 / 1 so if he raises this I figured he has a Queen. If he has JK I think he just calls?

1. Was betting a mistake? I wanted to stop the draws.

Fun fact: This and part II happened on 2 separate tables, 1 hand apart. After that I quit and went on the forum to post these 2 threads and see what happened here

At these stakes you can never know anything, although from the stats villain doesnt seem like a complete psycho. I, personally, mostly just call these spots for learning purposes. (yes, it might seem dumb).
He might also be drawing or hold some sort of a pp.
Do you have a big sample on him?

Not very big sample, 73 hands. Low AF should mean I only get raised by a Queen, in any case I don't think I can risk going further.

I thought that all draws will fold/call and worse Js will call at most (they have to fear I have a Queen), while Qs raise me. He only called preflop so no big PPs (AA, KK, QQ) to worry about I think.

I would have called that raise, it's not big enough for me to be scared away with a hand as good as you have. He could be raising a flush draw. Chances are he does have the queen when he does this min raise, but you are getting such good odds, Almost 1:4. It is also only 2nl, loads of donkeys clicking buttons. I would definately call the turn raise and evaluate the river bet (I would call the river too if he bets 1/3 or under). Also betting is much better than checking the flop here.

Well it is a check raise so that merits caution since he is normally not very aggressive... I thought a draw would check call most of the time, while Queen would do check raise more likely.

As bricht says, only way to know for sure was to call for learning purposes... but then I have no idea what to do vs. further pressure except fold.

What about JK? What would that hand be played like? I thought check/call but maybe check raise too... don't know.

P.S. If I stop responding then the forum blocked me :p I have a small number of posts so anti-spam is in effect.

Normally this could be another hand but it seems appropriate to post it here... for learning purposes :D :D :D

Villain unknown, just sat on the table and this is his 1st hand.

Hero (SB): $3.02

BB: $2.00
UTG: $5.21
UTG+1: $2.72
UTG+2: $0.65
MP1: $1.34
MP2: $2.08
CO: $1.40
BTN: $1.72

CO posts a big blind ($0.02)

Pre Flop: ($0.05) Hero is SB with 9 K
1 fold, UTG+1 calls $0.02, 3 folds, CO checks, 1 fold, Hero calls $0.01, BB checks

Flop: ($0.08) 6 6 9 (4 players)
Hero bets $0.08, BB folds, UTG+1 folds, CO raises to $0.18, Hero calls $0.10

Turn: ($0.44) J (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $0.29, Hero calls $0.29

River: ($1.02) J (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $0.32, Hero calls $0.32

Final Pot: $1.66
Hero mucks 9 K
CO shows 6 9 (a full house, Sixes full of Jacks)
CO wins $1.55
(Rake: $0.11)

Yup, he flopped a full house and I just called it like a good little calling station.

Read the whole thread :)

From now on I am folding this kind of crap on the flop and that is that. Way cheaper than losing initiative.

Question:
Not even limp for half blind? Sometimes I get lucky and get paid.

http://www.westonpoker.com/pokerInfo/preFlopOdds.php

Even 72o has around 10% chance to win against 4 opponents (of course some of those will be folded on the flop so not actual winners). This is similar to waiting for sets with small PPs.
