Bad call on my part, but i had a slight lapse of judgement

Flop: ($0.37) 4c As 2h (3 players)
BB bets $0.24, MP2 folds, Hero calls $0.24
I had a feeling he was overbetting...

Turn: ($0.85) Qs (2 players)
BB bets $0.82, Hero raises to $0.97 all in, BB calls $0.15
Again, couldnt see how he was betting for value here

River: ($2.79) 6h (2 players - 1 is all in)

Opinions on how i dealt with this? BB was a quite new player, so barely had a read on him, but i had a little bit of a gut feeling due to bet sizing.
Could i have changed any part of how i played?

If you called the preflop with A5 ,the flop is good call but you should fold the turn,no way to continue with a week Ace and a gutshot there

Alright things wrong with this hand.

1. Why havn't you got $2.00 at table?
2. A5o isn't a bad hand to actually to 3bet in position and try and steal the pot preflop...
3. Your opponent 3bet min raised which just shows he's marginal at best most times.


Reason why A5o isn't a bad hand to 3bet, because think of our A as a blocker, since we have an Ace it's 50% less likely our opponents will have an Ace, so knowing that our post flop play is quite easy. We should be trying to get it in and we are short.

The Q is a great card on the turn because it'll give higher chance for someone to call our jam. I know our opponents lead but if he hadn't we still could've jammed and got callers.


You really need to play more against people so you can get reads and understand their plays... But make sure you start with the basics and go from there.


Bet sizes are a tricky thing, what could be weak for someone else could mean the nuts for someone else.

Fold preflop to a raise from MP2 who appears from his stack size to be a winning player.....or as is suggested 3bet it light but only if you think MP2 is opening too many hands. You are likely dominated and only 30% against MP2 if he had Ace with anything bigger than your 5.
Ax small is a trap hand when the ace falls on the flop. I suggest only calling preflop raises with those hands occasionally and when suited to give yourself that extra way to win with a flush and ideally you are looking to make a flush or straight rather than relying on hitting an ace to win the hand.
As played the min raise from the bb is normally a beginner with a premium pair looking to pot sweeten, as it was who knows what this guy was thinking , 66 is a pair and to a beginner clearly looks good to him....lucky to back into a set of course but ...Regardless of the outcome this is a classic example of calling with a trap/trouble hand and getting into a tough spot. So do yourself a favour and don't call raises with hands like A5 offsuit.
