Villian Stats (VPIP/PFR/AF): 70/20/1

Hi all,

I was playing full ring micro stakes .01/.02. I ran into this spot this morning and would love to hear from some other players.

pokerstars - $0.02 NL - Holdem - 8 players

Hero (MP): 81.5 BB
MP+1: 83.5 BB
CO: 85.5 BB
BTN: 81 BB
SB: 100 BB
BB: 119 BB
UTG: 246.5 BB
UTG+1: 78 BB

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has Ah As
UTG raises to 3 BB, fold, Hero raises to 10 BB, fold, CO calls 10 BB, fold, fold, fold, UTG calls 7 BB

Flop : (31.5 BB, 3 players) Js Ks 5d
UTG checks, Hero bets 17 BB, CO calls 17 BB, fold

Turn : (65.5 BB, 2 players) Jd
Hero bets 54.5 BB and is all-in, CO calls 54.5 BB

River : (174.5 BB, 2 players) 6s

My thoughts on the hand; Everyone is complete fish at this table, don't see any regs. UTG bets 3BB. This bet doesn't mean much to me as he has bet UTG before with very weak hands. I re raise his bet 3.5 time hoping he shoves or plays. Don't mind taking down the pot if everyone folds and if I get a call I am more then happy to play post flop with this guy. I am surprised by the Cutoff calling, but like I said almost all these guys don't really know what is going on.

FLOP-Js Ks 5d: UTG checks to me, I play aggressive and bet more then half the pot. Cutoff calls and UTG folds. Interesting; is this guy just floating one because I C bet 75% of the time. Maybe he has a flush draw, maybe top pair.

Turn- J d: I throw another pretty hefty bet at him just over half the pot. Now with my knowledge most micro stakes players will be doing this with middle pair or top pair so I get nervous when another jack comes. At this point I still think he could have top pair with a K or going for a flush, both cases I believe he can have a ton of hands I beat.

River-6s

So now he either hit his flush and fished out on me or he has me crippled with trips or I still have him dominated and hes just being a fish. I know he looks to be playing a strong line but based on his HUD I know hes not very good. I shove all in and he calls. Any thoughts on this play, correct, to obvious I have AA??

It's an okay play given you started with less than 100bb and the pot is big enough to justify the shove. On the turn you don't have too much behind if you bet less, you don't want to bet 30bb and then have to fold the river on a king or spade.

It does look obvious you have AA, or AK, because what would you 3bet preflop a UTG open with from MP instead of flatting that would take this line? AJ? Nothing calls you except trips, and perhaps AK. The only hand that I can give you that I can beat is AQs. So when you shove, what is your EV?

You're an 93% favorite over top pair (AK and let's give KQ that might call you), and you're 4% against trips. Against that combined range (AK/KQ/AJ/KJ/QJ/J10) you're 46% to win the hand. So in terms of raw equity I'd say it's a neutral EV play, nothing to beat yourself up over.

In reality, usually you fold out all the top pairs (except AK, which may still find a fold) and are only called by the parts of his range that have you dead. You have the ace of spades, so you block out all the nut flush draws + gutshots he can have like AQs, A10s, further increasing the likelihood you only get called by made trips. There's exactly 2 hand combos, Q10s and J10s, which call you that are draws, which are dwarfed by the rest of his range. If I have Q10s, now I'm folding because I don't have the odds to call, and it's a paired board which further devalues the value of my draw.

With the stack and pot sizes what they are, I'd play it the same way, but I'd bet bigger on the flop, instead of barely over half pot. I like 24bb, so it defines what callers can continue to the turn with. Much more likely that he has a king if he gets to the turn and you can feel better getting the rest of your stack in.

First try to alway be with min 100BB at the tables.
Preflop is ok.
Flop. you shoud bet more like 22-25 BB because youare in multiway pot.
It`s a good hand, next time u will have luck so just kepp going.

Idd, there are already given plenty of good analysis. Though I disagree with the range Cactus gives to the villain, it is a fish on 0.01/0.02. They could still show up with Q5 etc, bad kings, bad jacks after the flop
I do agree with the flop bet of 20+ BB, since there are weak players and everytime they miss, you get more value, plus the fact that you don't want to play multiway pots with AA, because that's where you can lose huge pots. One more thing: if it were passive fish, your play is absolutely fine, they won't bet and you will only give them free chances to improve. However, at aggrofish, this play is wrong. A checkraise is way better, because against (aggro)fish you want to get the money in as fast as possible, and with a checkraise you can force your opponent to.

I usually also apply the pot/stack ratio rule. If the your stack < 3x pot, then you want to get it all in everytime you have an overpair or top pair good kicker.

Just unlucky run out this time.

Thanks all. Yes I usually top up for 100BB while playing, that one slipped. Thanks all for your opinions.

I would have played the hand the same way. Shove on the turn is also good as we are committed by then and making villain pay if he is chasing any draws. Isn't it good to make decisions mostly when we have a premium hand. ;)

if the table is full of fishes and calling stations, I would 3bet higher to 12 or 14BB and bet closer to full pot post flop. Even if you get sucked out in this hand you will have more respect for your raises in future, which you can abuse or have more closer approximation of the villain hand ranges.

Personally, I think you bet sizes should have been a little bit different, but overall it is fine to get him all in here. With a draw heavy flop like that I think the cbet on the flop should have been bigger. Somewhere around 75%-85% of the pot. With your chip stack, the turn card makes no difference to you. If he has a J so be it. You are not going to fold.
