Now you fold. Also, just call his min-raise preflop. When a 76/6 raises, he's usually got a pretty good hand. The min-raise is most likely just him trying to "get action" when he's got QQ or whatever.

Thanks. I never know how to play against these guys. I always make costly mistakes just assuming they are awful.

Pot odds for that certainly came into my mind. I was tilted at this point after losing a big hand. Are there any types of players that we are looking to get it in with 88? Like 5-bet willing to shove to any raise? I realize his raise stats are so tight that he doesn't make a good candidate, but what would his pfr stats need to be? Or would I really need to just watch his 3-bet+ %

I cannot imagine many scenarios where 5-bet shoving 88 pre is going to work out in FR games esp. vs. an EP raiser. When I was playing 6-max cash a lot I was getting to the point of shipping 99 occasionally in late position battles, esp. blind vs. blind, and against certain people I knew would stack off with AQ/AK and occasionally smaller pairs and pretty much TT/JJ/AK against a lot of people but I don't think I got it in with 88 very often.

Personally, I don't three bet small and medium pairs, but I'd call min-raise 4-bet. He should have a big pair and your implied odds of getting paid off with a set should be there.

you have to call the extra .10 cents on this monkey...if you flop the set, then scoop and if not, throw it away

Pretty wide, but I've shipped 88 before preflop in a few select instances.

Don't 3bet this preflop. Flat. As played it's pretty close to calling to set mine since he min raised but there won't be a ton of profit in it long term.

As for shipping 88 pre? I'd want him to be super loose and aggro preflop before I considered it. Like 80/60 with a 50% 3bet or something. It's still a super high variance play though and I'm actually going to go with the old cliche that you'll often be able to find a better spot against that type player that getting 8s in pre.

This I can understand. I am really focussing on my cash game skills these next few months as I am going to Vegas in May. I just get sick of these guys playing ATC and I have to dump a decent hand when they decide they are bored and are just going to go crazy aggro retard.

I guess that is the answer right there...just relax and wait until you have it and punish them
