I thought this hand was pretty interesting, and brought up an interesting scenario.

For some reason, on ultimate bet, whenever someone raises all in preflop that's less than a min-raise, you only have the option to call. It doesn't open the betting back up.

Villian with the full stack is fairly sane at this level, and hasn't been playing a lot of hands. I'm my usual loose aggressive self. My stats would be something like 36/26/5 if I had to guess.

=======================================

1snl333 is at seat 7 with $5.56.
Hero is at seat 8 with $3.17.
The button is at seat 1.

Meena posts the small blind of $.01.
untiltheriver posts the big blind of $.02.

Hero: :kc4: :as4:

Pre-flop:

2 folds. shaynet74 raises to $.09. 1 fold. Hero re-raises to $.36. 1 fold. FXTWO goes all-in for $.37. 2 folds shaynet74 calls. Hero calls.

Pot = $1.14

Flop (board: :qc4: :5s4: :kd4:):

shaynet74 goes all-in for $1.67. Hero.....
=======================================

There's no side pot, and this is a 3-bet pot. What's villain's shoving range, and is this call profitable?

I think I'd call

you're in a tight spot, but I don't think you're getting away from this one. Any hand that beats you (AK, KQ) should have given you some rope to hang yourself with - he bet big out of position, which seems very strange to me. All the hands you beat (AQ, AJ, KJ, 55, etc), on the other hand, could bet this way in case you missed - they've go t a hand that probably better than the all-in guy, so they want to push you out so that you don't hit on a later street. Or he could be on a draw (JT comes to mind), and willing to put his money in the middle for the potential payout if he hits. I say call, because I just can't see the better hands going all in on a rainbow flop.

As for the all-in thing - all the brick-and-mortar casinos I know do the same. If the action has passed you once (whether you bet/raised/called doesn't matter), and then someone after you goes all-in for less that the minimum raise, then you cannot re-raise. The reasoning I always hear is that going all-in is not technically a raise. Only when it passes the min-raise amount does it also become a raise. So if its less, all you can do after him is complete the action by calling the all-in or folding. However, if you never acted before the all-in bet was made, you should have the option to re-raise to whatever the minraise would be before the all-in came.

I think the only hand you're behind here is KQ (shaynet74 would have rerasied since you reopened the betting for him with QQ+). The fact that you couldn't put in another raise is standard, because the all-in was less than the min-raise amount would have been. I call.

That's a good point I didn't consider, since I just assumed he could only call the all in like I did. And I probably should have looked him up.

I figured since my opponent was fairly tight, his shoving range was QQ+, KQ, AK, KJ, and maybe something crazy like JT. Since most of those hands have me beat and I wasn't getting great pot odds, I folded & he showed down AK to beat the player in the side pot.

In microstakes (at least at UB), most players are scared money, and I get really scared when they start being aggressive as a result.

AK + 3-bet pot (or 4-bet rather) + TPTK + 100bb stacks at 2nl = call every single time. I think this is a call at any stakes really.
