The decision on the river here was made a lot easier by him being short stacked (and below buy in limit so possible maniac) but obviously I was still calling reluctantly expecting to see JJ-AA or a 3 (even though one shouldn't really be in his range) most of the time since there are isn't a single missed draw on the board either. Since there's no 2 pair from his range I felt better about calling hoping to see a weaker Jack but if the river bet was pot sized I probably would've folded.

I don't think I'm ever folding on the turn ever since I'm pretty much near the top of my range?

I like, how you played the hand. Its 2NL, and there are signs, he is probably a recreational player. And as you say, what does he even have, that beat you here? Its possible of course, that he can have a 3 in his hand, but if a recreational player flop trips on a dry board like this, then at least some percentage of the time he would slowplay it. Maybe he made some silly flat preflop with pocket kings, and now he is just owning you. But I expect to see overplayed JX or a random bluff like A8 here often enough for this to be a profitable calldown. If you are going to lay the hand down, the turn is the street to do it.

So you think as played we are committed to a river call even against an over-bet jam (assuming he had the stack size)?

No I am talking about the situation, which actually existed against a broken stack. With 100BB effective stack this does lean more towards a fold on the river if not the turn.

Poker isn't Super Mario World where we can always do one thing and it is going to work. We don't do anything a 100% of times.
Having said that, you played the hand fine. The only thing I would do different is to be checking on the flop for pot control, perhaps like that Villain could not put up a shove OTR, putting us on a horrible condition.

On the river it is a guessing call, no further ado.
