Villain was 17/12 with a steal of 11. So we know he has a static range that doesn't change based on position. Do you guys mind this line every once in a while, should I just fold flop or maybe X/R flop?

I think in this spot it's all about his flop cbet%. If it is high you could try check/raising the flop. Taking the line you took is ok I suppose, probably costs the same to check-raise the flop though and prevents him gaining more equity OTT
