All right so lol@folding a set here because it is 2NL and all, but seriously, is it possible to let go here?

OTF I put him on either mid pair + strong kicker/top pair + weak-mid kicker/straight draws. There might be some air in there, but that is irrelevant because he is folding that to the raise. When the Q comes I said to myself he will check shove if he got there and call/fold if he didn't. I ended up convincing myself to call because he might do the same with Q8/QT and used the weak argument that I have outs. I know it is fairly ridiculous to think about folding a set here, but the one and only hand he is guaranteed to play this way is J9. Possible to find a fold here or am I doomed to call?

Call. Don't even 2nd guess it imo. He could play several hands you beat this way including all his 2pair hands and even QJ. Hell he could be "trapping" with AA/KK.

Yeah the min-sizing throughout the entire line he took made me consider an overpair. I wasn't going to be able to fold a set anyway. Good to know we beat him often enough here. I just needed a second opinion to resettle my mind on the matter.

The beauty of a set here is it's often the best of it and it's enough to shove.
Preflop raise would've been best here, at worst you will win the blinds and with 55 that's a great scenario, being uncontested. When you do hit your set though with some action you can definetly get more money in the pot, I think if you check and then shoved I think it's a waste, too many ppl will fold on the flop and that's what you don't want. You want to get people pot committed and you want all your chips in the centre ASAP \

Also I noticed your turn raise a little low, if people see this they might think your scared a lil... Just remember a scare card for you might be a scare card for them.... Lets say your opponent has a set of 8s or 10s and you shove on that turn... Depending on some players, maybe TAGS might actually fold there? But ofc it's 2nl... But putting your opponent in tough spots is what you want to do, and avoid putting yourself there.. I think shove the turn as a last resort but normally try shoving the flop ... Set is normally good enough for a shove.

So to recap... RAISE PREFLOP like you would AK etc... Your flop bet might look like a light c-bet... you'll get more action :) and get it in before the trouble begins!
