UTG (Hero): $8.68 (434 bb)
MP: $0.89 (45 bb)
CO: $0.99 (50 bb)
BU: $1.70 (85 bb)
SB: $1.10 (55 bb)
BB: $3.13 (157 bb)

Pre-Flop: ($0.03) Hero is UTG with Q Q
Hero raises to $0.06, 1 fold, CO calls $0.06, BTN calls $0.06, 1 fold, BB calls $0.04

Flop: ($0.25) 4 Q J (4 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $0.18, CO folds, BTN calls $0.18, BB folds

Turn: ($0.61) 2 (2 players)
Hero bets $0.38, BTN calls $0.38

River: ($1.37) 6 (2 players)
Hero bets $0.60, BTN raises to $1.08 (all-in), Hero calls $0.48

Villain is largely unknown but first 10 hands looks splashy

I would fold to river raise most of the time if villain has decent stats as river raise bluff is very unlikely at NL2. But occasionally there are players like slow and overplay AA all the way so I called dow.

Question:
Would you rather check call the turn and/or check-call river or use different sizing?

I don't see anything wrong with the way you played the hand, and I think it was played fine other than the pre-flop open amount.. but I mean that is player dependent I generally have a larger opening amount in cash. I don't really like the check call because if villain has a single spade in their hand we let them draw for free when you are getting value with your turn bet.
