Just as I thought I was getting the hang of micro stakes cash, this hand came along! Personally, I think I should probably have bet a little more pre and post flop but I'm not sure about the river. After the check on the turn I thought I was certain to be ahead but obviously not!

PokerStars - $0.02 NL FAST (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: 101 BB
SB: 96.5 BB
BB: 112 BB
UTG: 171 BB
MP: 100 BB
Hero (CO): 302 BB

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has A<font color='black'>♠</font> Q<font color='red'>♥</font>

UTG raises to 2 BB, fold, Hero raises to 4 BB, fold, fold, fold, UTG calls 2 BB

Flop: (9.5 BB, 2 players) 8<font color='black'>♠</font> 9<font color='black'>♣</font> 4<font color='black'>♣</font>
UTG checks, Hero bets 4 BB, UTG calls 4 BB

Turn: (17.5 BB, 2 players) 6<font color='black'>♣</font>
UTG checks, Hero checks

River: (17.5 BB, 2 players) A<font color='red'>♦</font>
UTG bets 78 BB, Hero calls 78 BB

UTG shows 3<font color='black'>♣</font> A<font color='black'>♣</font> (Flush, Ace High) (Pre 32%, Flop 48%, Turn 100%)
Hero mucks A<font color='black'>♠</font> Q<font color='red'>♥</font> (One Pair, Aces) (Pre 68%, Flop 52%, Turn 0%)
UTG wins 167.5 BB

Did I do the right thing or more often than not am I going to be beaten? I'm grateful for any feedback!

As you said definitely bet bigger pre flop and on the flop. I would definitely fold the river, I don't think a big overbet like that will be a bluff very often and I don't think you see them show up with anything that TP beats very often either.

Why in the world would you call such a massive overbet ??

Into a 17.5 big blind pot villain bet 78 bigs. That's 4.5 times the pot size, villain will rarely bluff with such a large bet. It was an easy fold there and you only had top pair. That was a really loose call. If you had a King high flush or queen high flush then you can think about calling a loose bluffy player but not with anything less. Easy fold. :canabis:

Fair point, thanks for the feedback!

I'm not sure if it's down to bad play (probably) or variance but it's all been downhill since! I usually profit from SNGs but cash, even at micro stakes doesn't seem to be working for me. I'm sure I'll get there in the end!

make it 7-8bbs pre, cbetting this boards fine, if he was in position and checked back then you could usually rule a flush from his range, you were the last player to show aggression so he can check to you in the hope of you double barreling, as played pretty easy fold, don't think he ever does this with AJ/A10 or any worse hands to justify calling.

NOPE. No way with that river bet on cash. With only TP. I can gladly fold that and save money for a better hand.

When you have AQ , most of the time somebody else has A*something... AK in many cases. I ve seen a lot of situations when the AK goes all in and the AQ follows it..The biggest trap where you can fall. So until you have the nuts on the hand,it s doesn t worth a thing to call

When he checks the turn he's expecting you to bet. If you bet the turn and he either calls or raises, then 9 times out of 10 he has a flush. So betting the turn saves you money.

Your preflop reraise should have been much bigger... around 8 or 9 bb. Then you would have made money from the hand.
