BB: $2.65
CO: $5.57
BTN: $0.78
Hero (SB): $2.24
Pre Flop: ($0.03) Hero is SB with 7
7
CO calls $0.02, BTN raises to $0.08, Hero calls $0.07, 2 folds
I was hoping the BB and CO would have called giving me better implied odds to set mine etc. They didn't call so i was prepared to check/fold to a C-bet if no 7 comes.
Flop: ($0.20) 5
6
4
(2 players)
Hero bets $0.08,
However with an over pair and an open ender i have about 39% of hitting the winner EVEN if my hidden over pair is losing. But i think i'm ahead so i bet out for value. Maybe i should have bet out more because of the threat of overcards hitting the turn and river?
BTN raises to $0.16,
So he raises. He could have - AQ to A8, AA-33 or 3-7s (very doubtful because of him calling the CO raise. I'm kinda banking he has AK and trying to steal but maybe i'm giving him too much credit as this is only 1c/2c etc). So i decide to just push! I seem to do this as a habit. I think that if i'm ahead on the flop, i'll shove so i'm not out played/scared off by the turn and river. Even if i was behind in this situation i still have approx 39% of making an even stronger hand. But because i think i'm ahead, and i have 10 outs if i'm not, i shove.
Hero raises to $2.16 all in, BTN calls $0.54 all in
Turn: ($1.60) 8
(2 players - 2 are all in)
I hit a straight.
River: ($1.60) A
(2 players - 2 are all in)
Final Pot: $1.60
BTN shows Q
Q
(a pair of Queens)
Hero shows 7
7
(a straight, Four to Eight)
Hero wins $1.54
(Rake: $0.06)
So he had me well beat with the Q-Q over pair when the money went in. I got lucky and took down the pot but in the long run i'd lose money in this situation. How could i have improved it? I'm i right to shove on the flop when i believe i'm ahead (even though i wasn't in this example)?
Thanks for any thoughts and opinions.
