Hey guys,

Continuing my bankroll challenge at 2NL and it's going really well. Beating it at 33BB/100 so far after 9,000 hands. Tiny sample I know but generally feeling good :)

This hand just happened and I actually made a mistake (too many tables) and I donked out on the flop with my set from the BB. But the way the hand panned out, I actually think it worked in my favour.

So logic is - If I check like normal, he cbets 2/3 pot or something similar and I re-raise - It looks really strong given the board is so dry.

when I donk out - He re-raises me and I can just call and deceptively conceal the strength of my hand while building the pot to enable me to get stacks in by the river, check/call on turn. He has no clue that I have him crushed, he might even re-raise my flop bet with nothing, out of frustration - I've done that before. Them idiots keep donking at me with bottom pair!
On the other hand, if he has nothing he's mostly just going to fold flop and we lose value from his likely cbet.

Just wondered how you guys play a set OOP in this kinda spot? And if I'm donking out with sets then should I be donking with FDs and gutshots to balance my range? It isn't something i've added to my game before, I play quite straightforward OOP, particularly at the micros.

set mine opp

I typically do not set mine small pairs OOP. I would more 3bet and fold to a four bet here. I find it difficult to extract money OOP when I do hit my small set. I can rep a stronger range with a 3bet and c-bet more flops when I miss my set, which happens more times than not. I just don't think you can extract enough money from villian enough of the time to make it profitable to set mine OPP.

I agree. But not at 10NL and below where players overvalue their hands.

Nice hand you played it great.
Personally I lead out with some of my bottom sets in this situation or will lead any set into a wet board where I don't want to give free cards.
It should be player dependent of course, you are better leading into aggressive players who are likely to raise. I also suggest leading into tight UTG openers as they have a stronger range and are more likely to get involved in a similar way to this hand.
I have talked about this topic with other good players and some will say you should never lead out but mixing up your play is good.
The drawbacks are you take away a lot of your opponents bluffs which is why I focus on leading into tight or aggressive players who will either have a hand or still bluff anyway.
The arguments for leading out include big hand/big pot and you should generally be putting money into pots if you think you are ahead.

Well played, nice. I really like it how you smash this aggrodonkers, OOP not so good, but i prefer lead with small sets on dry boards, i think cbets good idea to extract some value... especially on this situation vs aggro players.
