SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has A♣Q♥

Hero raises to 3.5 BB, fold, fold, fold, SB raises to 11 BB, fold, Hero calls 7.5 BB

Flop: (23 BB, 2 players) 2♠T♠Q♠
SB bets 21 BB, Hero?

Calling the 3Bet is marginal with a hand that is often dominated by the range of three-betters.

7.5BB to call for a 15.5 BB pot, so getting better than 2:1, in position.

This is villain's first hand at the table, and his name was not familiar to me. This factored into my decision to call the 3Bet, since I have often seen unknown players immediately make foolish plays at these stakes.

What do you think about this call pre-flop?

Flop is dangerous, since there is a flush on the board, and overpairs and sets are in the villain's range.

Why are you that short? Buy in for max. I would insta push someone that short for their stack.
I think that's what happened here as well

:dito:
i guess its 1 of those half stack tables on acr

btw calling a 3bet w/ 1/3 of our stack is a bad idea IMO, shove/fold
:)

Good question. I always buy in for max, and usually top up to max as needed. I had just taken a bad beat the hand before, and missed the opportunity to top up before this hand.

My usual mode of playing AQo in cash games is:

- Fold to raise from early or middle position, except from a maniac
- Fold to 3-Bet, except from a maniac
- Open raise from any position
- 3-Bet when facing likely steal attempt from button or cutoff.

So my usual choice here would be to fold, even getting 2:1, because it is behind, and often far behind, most of the hands that will 3-bet it. Even if you make top pair with AQ, you have to be aware that the three-bettor will often have AK.

Yes. Villain is likely to C-bet with any hand on flop. Calling this % of our stack and playing fit-or-fold is not profitable, and if I am going to call the c-bet that essentially puts me all in. Better to fold, or to go all-in preflop.

FWIW, I called the flop bet, which put me all in. Villain had KK, and I did not improve on the turn and river.
