Villain is 17/5 (300 hands) and seems to be a fairly solid player.
What do you think his hand was and how could I have played it different?

I can only see KK getting you there which is possible given his 3bet. On the other hand AK would probably play it the same way so I don't see anything wrong.

I bet he had KK since you don't sound too happy with the hand. :) Results oriented thingy?

This guy is a nit fish. I figure him to have KK+/AK on the river here almost all the time and your're way ahead of that range. 85%.

Also I raise the flop here. This guy has so many hands he's never folding that its criminal to not raise the flop. Also, stop min raising. You're losing so much value by min raising. If they want to call they'll call. The size of the raise is usually not going to change their decision.

With top set, shovel the money in as quickly as possible. If he has an overpair he's not going anywhere. Make it at least 40c on the flop. If he turned top set then he got lucky with his 2 outer, but it's difficult to get away from since AK might bet the flop weakly the way he did and then think he has the nuts on the turn. I'm for getting it in... but faster!

17/5 is not solid, he's a passive nit fish.

You're right, he had KK and I lost all the profit I had made over the previous hour in one hand :(

I agree with you guys, I should have raised the flop and also raised the turn more. Still, it wouldn't have changed the outcome, he just got lucky.

I think my biggest mistake here is raising the river. Why the hell didn't I just call? I was perfectly aware that he was a nit and could have KK.

Because the times he has AK/AA will outnumber the times he has you beat.

If he is a nit then it's quite possible he has A,K/K,Q etc..with raising the turn you should be shoving and expect him calling of top pair good kicker with maybe even flush draw too.

Not sure why flatting the flop bet was done, your slow playing on a dangerous board with a flush/straight draw, you should be 3betting here and being very happy to get it in on the flop.

^^ Obviously this. Would the hand be any different with AK and AA? No, so we would be ahead most of the times.

85% of the time you will win his whole stack.15% of the time you will lose a whole stack.

This is a perfect example of why you shouldnt be result oriented. Shovel the nickles.

I found in micro games when a weak passive bets into you, unless you have the nuts you are beat, I wouldn't call him a nit though (Nits call, call, call with 4 of a kind on the flop). Maybe a 4x pot bet after the flop will knock him off but pocket K's are hard to fold for anyone before the turn. I don't really care for the strait draw, though a nit wouldn't play 4 6, maybe A 4.
