l would lead out on the flop here personally just to charge any draws and start building the pot with my big hand. The 9&7 are somewhat connected and hit all those middling suited connectors and gappers that are played in this spot. If he anything at all he won't go away to a lead out bet. There is also the possibilty of a club or another middling card that might slow you both down on the turn.
The check raise might win you an extra bet now and again but Id make it bigger as his odds to call with a draw plus his implied don't make it much of a mistake for him to continue. In true begginers style he just calls with a set.
So the run out is a cooler but I suggest you look at the hand from a bet sizing perspective.
Think about what range he has and how big a bet he might call on the first two streets. And what you might call with something like T8 with one or two clubs
We all have dozens of coolers like this we could post.

I normally lead out if overcards arrive... i guess i should as well when it is connected like this good point .. thanks

Yea I agree with Fig. I would have lead here. It would not have changed anything though because the villain is NOT folding 77. You are just......screwed lol. You are going to pay him almost every time.
