So I'm working on my 3-betting game at the moment - 3-betting more preflop and calling 3-bets less.

I decided to 3-bet here with AQo because I hadn't 3-betted yet on this table, the original raiser had been stealing the blinds quite a bit, and the villain had a VPIP of 70. Did I give up too easily? What do you do in situations like this when they flat the 3-bet and then the flop misses you completely? Is it sometimes better to check?

Some post-flop statistics might help here -- is villain a calling station on all streets? If so, I'm thinking he missed a flush draw? Or maybe caught the 9 or Jack? Probably not getting him off the hand, though...

At least you were right about the button stealing! :)

Only had around 30 hands on him so had now idea about postflop play.

Here's how it ended:

Final Pot: $1.42

Showdown:
SB shows :jc4: :6d4: (a pair of jacks)
Outcome: SB wins $1.35

If UTG limps alot pre 3bet to iso fish an pick up dead $ is fine. But with villain vpip of 70 i don't cbet this flop the board is way to wet for me.He folds 0 pairs an 0 draws.
Leave the results out next time(at least for a day)to get unbiased posts.

Postflop stats would help a lot.

Bet less on the flop; you got your nut barreling card so bet the turn, too.

Why are you cetting flop at all.Villain has a vpip of 70.Villain does not fold AJ,A9,A5(maybe any Ax hand)KQ,KJ,K10,Q10,Q9,Jx,9x,5x,67,78,or any random heart draw.
There will be better spots to hit the flop an Vbet the shit out of this player imo.

That's good advice, I'll try a smaller flop bet next time this happens. More like 1/2 the pot would have been better in this hand...but against a tighter (lol) 3-bet calling range could that not be seen as a sign of weakness causing me to be check-raised, possibly as a bluff?

In 3-bet pots we don't have to cbet as much anyway to get stacks in by river. When we bet less on the flop we can double barrel more often at a better price.

don't be afraid of getting raised, especially when you have nothing. how often do calling stations check-raise anyway? If you don't believe me, keep track of how often you bet small and get bluff-raised when you have top two+ vs. a station.

PF is %100 standard. I c/f flop. Fish don't like to fold underpairs and most flatting ranges smash this flop texture.

As played, +1 to everything baudib is saying, although I think it's just marginal overall given that a lot of his flop peeling range actually hits that king a lot (KQ/KT/QT/KJ/AJ still doesn't fold/JT/QJ pick up gutters with their pair/etc).
