Sweet flop. Readless, would it be better to go ahead and bet here, or check and see what the villains do on the turn?

This is a very straightforward hand and the fact you're posting it makes me think you haven't got the right thinking process for your hands down.

How strong is my hand relative to my opponents' hand ranges?
With that in mind, what's my goal for the hand?
How do I best achieve that goal?

When thinking about slowplaying/playing fast:

How vulnerable is my hand?
How vulnerable am I to action-killing cards?
What does the flop texture look like, ie how likely are people to chase/call/have a made hand already?

Betting does a number of things for us:

1) We're in late position, and betting looks like a bluff.

2) Anyone with a Jack is likely to check/raise us, which is great :).

3) We can be drawn out on if someone is playing QJ, KJ, or AJ. Get the $ in while we're good.

4) Straight draws will still chase.

5) Pocket pairs will call.

6) Pots grow exponentially, so we want money going in on every street.

7) Blah blah blah.

Do you need another 6 good reasons to bet? We're in maximum extraction mode. Thus, we want $ to enter the pot on every street. Checking behind diminishes oru chances of getting the maximum value for our hand, especially since many hands will call but not bet this flop.

I probably make a small bet here, say about a third of the pot?

It's gonna look like either you're feeling about to see if your underpair is good, or that you're making a please-call-me bet with the monster that you actually have, but straight draws will be getting the right odds to hang about as long as they don't credit you with the boat and if anyone's got a jack they'll likely check-raise you here. Which would be nice.

Ch9 has a point too, any paint card that comes on the turn or river isn't going to be pretty for you, as AJ / KJ / QJ could all be in the range of your opponents. As could JT, actually, but let's not go looking for monsters in the closet just yet. And you don't want to give those other jack-paint hands a free card on the turn to draw out on you.

Point made. How much do we bet? Full pot? 1/2 pot? 2/3 pot? 3/4 pot?

Whatever your usual C-bet size is. I usually bet 2/3, some people prefer 3/4. As long as you're not full-potting it, or making an overly weak bet, the size doesn't matter much.

*** FLOP *** [Jd Th Jc]
Wooyong checks

royalburrito24 bets $0.75
Wooyong has 15 seconds left to act
Wooyong folds

Uncalled bet of $0.75 returned to royalburrito24

royalburrito24 wins the pot ($1.25)

I was just doubting my bet a little bit, and thought I would post to see any other alternatives. But judging from the replies to this thread, I made the right move.

There what, $1.35 in the pot on the flop?

Maybe a bet around 40-50c gets you a bit more action (remembering that you're mostly trying to extract cash and build the pot here, not charge people the wrong price to draw).

Or maybe everyone still just folds. Happens sometimes. In those circumstances though, it usually means everyone else has missed the flop so completely that you're not likely to make much money on this hand even if you slowplayed it to the river.

$1.35-rake= $1.25 pot.

That is also what I was thinking, but I just wanted to make sure.

And Chuck, I went as far to copy paste your post into a document so I can practice remembering to do that.

i see no reason what so ever to bet the flop.. both checked to see where they stood... you told them to early where they stood... give them a free card and hope it some how helped their hands and try to get more value out of a monster hand you flopped.. just my opinion.
