Just want to check really that what im doing here is generally correct.

Villian is pretty classic TAG / Nitty: 16/14/1

poker stars, $0.05/$0.10 NL Hold'em Cash Game, 9 Players
LeggoPoker.com - Hand History Converter

BTN: $9.85
SB: $7.30
BB: $2
UTG: $9.85
Hero (UTG+1): $12
UTG+2: $11.85
MP1: $1.70
MP2: $10.05
CO: $3

Pre-Flop: J

dealt to Hero (UTG+1)
UTG calls $0.10, Hero raises to $0.40, UTG+2 raises to $1.60,

Is this a classic 4-bet even against a TAG OOP or should i flat this, and hope for a favourable flop?

He's got an AF of 1, and its full ring. I'd play a flop with him unless he has crazy 3-bet %.

Pretty standard flat for me. Nothing really shoves/calls a 4bet that we beat.

Pretty much the replies I expected. I dunno why, but since im on a pretty bad run im doubting all my standard plays. Im moving down and taking a break so maybe thatll help.

Anyway i flatted the bet, flop came up with three unders, so i threw out a standard c-bet expecting something like AK to flat and anything that beat me to raise and he shoved over me, so i folded.

Against solid players, a decent rule of thumb is to not get your money in preflop with a weaker hand than QQ. This is pretty obvious with just a little bit of playing around in PokerStove; your equity versus even a 99+,AKo,AKs range isn't good until QQ. Metagame and other aspects factor in, but looking at the raw equity numbers is a good exercise.

Putting out a bet there isn't a c-bet since you lost the lead in the pf betting round. What you did is a lead or a donk, and it doesn't do you much good.

By donking you often shut AK/AQ down, just about the only hands you beat. You generally want to check-call a rag flop after that pf action, then give up if he double barrels. Especially at 10nl where people probably won't double barrel much.
