I have got to be a bit mean here, but I think you played this hand pretty terrible imo.

You have called a raise pf and hit the virtual nuts on the flop. You then proceed to call a bet on the flop. I don't mind the call, but I prefer to r/r here.

The next fatal mistake is the turn, why are you checking the turn? You have to bet this turn, because all your doing is letting him catch up. As for the river, well there you go.

Yes it would be bad luck if you get your money in ahead on the flop or turn and he draws out, but you let him draw out, and you put most of your money in when your drawing dead. The way it was played out, no you were not unlucky imo. Sorry for the honesty.

it is very bad luck for sure, and you are going to stack 100% here but yea your goal should be to get your stack in as quick as possible. At nl10 if you raise this flop somebody would probably shove with 99. But if you call and say a K comes on the turn then an A on the river, you are absolutely destroying your action simply because the villain will be less likely to get the money in with 2 overs on the board (made even worse by the check on the turn).

As played, if the river was a brick, villain will just call your bet and even tho you probably could have got stacks in on the flop (or on the turn with good bet sizing) you will extract minimum value.

You have someone betting out on the flop. You have the nuts. What were you waiting for? If you want to call on the flop fine I understand that. But checking on the turn was a big mistake. In ring games the object is to get max return on your bet. Checking doesn't accomplish this. Don't worry about the results. This doesn't happen that often.

The thing that people often get wrong at this level is to slow play. Just dont do it! It absolutley unneccesary as the majority of players will call you down with their weaker hands, pracitcally begging you to take their money. With that flop, im betting &/or raising as much as i think they will call on every street witht the aim to get AI at the earliest oppurtunity. To be honest you let him get there, sorry.

I'm not worried about letting him get there. I'm worried about all the value you miss when he doesn't hit his 9 on the river.

This player is probably poor enough to call 3 streets of betting with pocket 9's. Abuse that fact and put some money in the pot. Get value for your monster hand!

Nothing new, but I'll toss in my 2 cents.

I have no problem with the call on the flop. When I flop a big hand like this, my aim is to use the flop to gauge the strength of my opponents, and use the turn to prime the pot so that I can get all the money in on the river.

If I had a read on the villain being an aggressive better, a check-raise would work. But, with no reads, I'd lead out on the turn with a healthy bet: 2/3 pot, or maybe more. That way, if he flat calls, we can get most of the money in on the river.

This is a good hand to post here. Even if you played this hand better, you would have still stood a good chance of losing. But winning and losing aren't all that important. As long as the bulk of the money goes in when you have the best hand, the profits will come naturally.
