I realize the turn bet was weak, what would have some of you poker geniuses done....

I had been pretty aggressive on the blinds and I had seen him 3-bet preflop a good amount of times for the limited amount of hands we played.

Villian, 40/30/2 (54%)

i check behind here. betting only folds out hands you beat and gets played back at by hands that beat you. On this board im just trying to get to showdown so im checking behind both streets if i get the chance, calling most bets on the river.

I would just call on the flop, raising here gets called by better mostly, and shuts down his bluffs. As played I would check behind turn and call most rivers if he is bluffy.

The SB 3-betting you usually means that he has a decent pair (an overpair) or Ace/face (maybe face/face suite or non, if he's loose).

Why the weak re-raise on the flop? It was likely a c-bet and your min-re-raise makes it pretty cheap for him to see a turn, and what do you do if the turn is a face card?

That re-raise gave you no information.
If you tripled that re-raise you're going to chase out K/Q drawers, while pretty much only getting called by overpairs. So at that point you can shut down.

I'd just check/call this down if he keeps it cheap. I expect he has an overpair (Jacks+ because of the 3-bet) and is hoping to check/raise you on the turn because you've showed aggression already.

I was thinking a lot differently. We're only 4 handed and he has been fairly aggressive, my raise looks like a pretty standard blind steal.

Honestly, I said weak turn bet in the original post, but meant to say I was dissapointed with my bet on the flop. I honestly can't tell you why I did that, other than pure laziness and lack of math abilities.

That re-raise gave you no information.

I should definitely be checking behind here then...mmmkay.

His flop bet is likely a c-bet with an overpair (because of his 3-bet), so although making it 3x his flop bet is better than the min-raise, check folding or check calling if it's cheap is the best option here, right? Making a pot-sized bet in this sort of situation is -EV and would commit us to the pot, would it not?

standard fold preflop ?

I would think this is a standard steal if it's folded/limped to us, and perhaps a standard fold to villian's 3-bet, depending on how aggressive he is. As played though, I think check-folding/check calling is best.

I meant standard fold to 3bet, of course. Calling 3bets with Ace rag is spewing, imo.

Of course, it's only 4-handed, so you can justify it. But unless you flop 2 pairs, there's really no flop you can be happy with when you call this 3bet.

Yea, I don't really like flatting the 3-bet here..then again, I don't really like playing 4-handed.

Yeah A8 not good hand to flat 3-bet with. I 4-bet or fold pre.

Postflop, minraise is super-spewy, but you said you know that.

He's probably not folding 99+ here now that the pot's big and nothing worse pays off another bet. Pretty dry board so I guess I check behind and check or fold any river. Being in position helps a ton here as his 89-type hands will probably just check back and I don't even see overs bluffing here because your line just screams trying to trap him. Hell I wouldn't be surprised to see him check a boat back on the river to check-raise. You're beat the heavy majority here though, so I don't think betting to deny the 6-outer from AJ+/KQ/other random overs really justifies the amount of times we'd put money in behind, especially given the fact that we don't pay these 6-outers when they hit and oop they can rarely bluff us unless they hit.

I agree with many here, calling is a little suspect, although I do like a 4bet here over a fold tbh. Obviously not a ton of hands but I think 40/30/25 over the 60ish or so(complete guess based on 12 3bet chances) hands that he is just aggressive and not getting nice cards. Not many A combos left to call a 4bet so he would need a higher pair probably and considering this is his 4th 3bet in 13 chances I am not assuming he has one of those.

4 bet preflop, Then on the flop I don't really like the min raise but anyways, I would check back the turn, and try to get to showdown, I'm probably paying off a small bet if the river is a blank and folding to any big bet.
