I have seen him throw out 2 total bluffs when opponent checked to the river vs him. I checked to him thinking he would try a bluff, however the size of the bet threw me off, last couple times he tried it he only threw out 1-2 dollars.

I'd guess he's got a weak ace that hit maybe the 8. From the betting patterns I'm guessing he put you on something like AK/AQ and that you missed since you checked the river.

I'm calling this one.

Well against loose players you always redo the hand in your mind and think could he have the deuce. I would probably have to call though hoping he has a big ace that missed.

I dunno why he would be raising preflop from mid with A2, although that definitely doesn't mean he isn't doing that. On the flop he'd have a gut shot draw which people hate to fold for some reason.

With the preflop raise and calls, he could be a set of 8s, but he could also have an overpair, which is going to be bigger than yours. Or A5s gives him the straight on the turn.


Because he's shown bluffs is a reason to call. The size of the bet may indicate he's got a hand, but it may be just that the pot is bigger or he thinks you need a bigger bet to be bluffed. I'm mixed on whether the net consideration of that is a reason to call or not. But your check on the river might have been the inducement for him to bluff, his thinking being, I've got no hand, but he's afraid I have a trey of 2s so he'll fold to a bet. And if he's got A8s it makes him even more comfortable. Because of your leads previously, I think throwing out a blocking bet might have been a better play to minimize this thought pattern.


If he were a good or tight player, I'd fold this. But, all in all, I might lean towards a call, though I'd also guess that you folded and you're wondering if it was the right decision.

Call, call, shove. Hmm, against a loose player who you saw bluffing twice on the river I'm leaning towards a call. The duece isn't probable, its actually a good card for you. This line of calling and betting big on the river could mean a biggger PP than yours, but its a chance you're going to have to take with his profile. I don't think you should fold this.

I would call.....its best pair on the board, unless he's calling you with a 2 but I doubt it

Well, the reason I checked here is because I thought he might throw out a 1-2 dollar bet and I would be fine calling that and I also wouldnt mind checking this one down. The large bet threw me off and I thought about it a long time but finally decided to call. I read it right, not sure what he was calling the flop and turn with.

The intention of bluffing you on the river

The only thing that scares me here is the fact that he pushed rather than throw out his 'regular' 1-2$ bluff on the river. This is one way LAGs make their money; bluff again and again, then eventually when they do pick up a monster, they get paid off like crazy.

He could just have easily had an overfull (or even overpair), but with his history I think we have to call this.

1- You had a read that hes loose and bluffs rivers with nothing.

2- You checked to get him to bet.

3- You have an overpair to the board, so if he bluffs river with nothing, he can pretty easily shove river with an 8 or 4.

Sure you could be beat. But such a strong read on such a board makes it a must call.

since his previous bluffs were seen or caught, he threw a bigger one here to muscle you out.
