Heh, all you got here Chuck is a bluff catcher. Given some poor players will do this with ace high, assuming a split. Given the action though a hand like A8 fits the action, and combine this with the way people love big river bets with the nuts, I think we are beat here enough times that leaves calling -EV.

I lean towards fold. If we had a nice read, and a villian with a high enough river aggression factor we could call more profitably.

Ooooo, nice turn.

Ooooo, nice river.

You hope - failed flush draw, overpair, Ace.

you hope not - 4 or 8.

You raised pre-flop and got 1 caller. He's bloody lucky if he's called with a 4 or and 8. His bet is quite hefty, would a full house bet that much and scare off pairs? Would he check and let you fire out a 3rd bullett before re-raising?

I always say call (might be a slight weakness!), but i'd call. If you had KQ instead and it was Aces and 10's doubles up on board it would be an easy fold.

Villain is unknown! <------ Deadly read!;)

Both bob and rob present your dilemma. Either he hit a set on the flop, or he has an overpair or busted flush draw.

Personally I hope you called and showed that SOB a thing or 2! How dare he try to outplay you post flop! ;)

i think a broken flush draw is possible but what about suited connectors like 89 sooted or something. I think u have to fold this though

Call if you think your hand is good 30% of the time.

Does A8 really fit the action? Don't we have to discount it somewhat given that he didn't bet or c/r the turn?

From my perspective, I see a lot of people leading double paired rivers (in limit HE) with pocket pairs, for instance 99 on this board, because they figure that I "have" to call with an ace-kicker for the chance of chopping. That's not to say that that play carries over to NLHE in any way, but the psychology of it might. WE know that his hand may have improved to the best hand on the river, but that river card "shouldn't" have changed our relative hand strengths unless he has A4s. And how could he put us on a straight?

I call it.
