Live game, blinds are 1/1. Due to a previous hand I'm short stacked at £43.

MP raises to £4,

Villain raises to £12, I notice he never checked his cards.

I shove £43 with 77.

Play gets back round to him. He's loose but probably the best player at the table. Plays big live tourneys like the ME. He looks at his cards.

He says - do you want a call?
I say - I don't mind.
He says - well I will let you choose.

He's being 100% honest, I get to decide. I know I'm ahead otherwise he would just call.

He has £31 to call to win £92.

What do you say to him?

dude, really?

and tell him no, free pots are the best pots imo.. hard to see him 3betting anything we're dominating etc etc.

edit: he never checked his cards?

yeah 77 against a 100% range is fine, call lol.

still disagree with not reloading though.

Id only brought £300 with me (3 buyins) and I wasnt interested in withdrawing more. I ran pretty bad and my mate (and lift) was still there so I didnt want to get up with money still left.

You said there was a raise to £4, then villain raised to £12 and you shoved for £43 total? So there's £61 total due the blinds.

So he's calling £31 to win £61. We are getting to "choose" his action, so all we have to do is compare the EV of "making him" call or fold. We have 66% equity against a random range. If he folds, we win the £61 in the pot 100% of the time, so EV(fold) = £61. If he calls, there's £92 in the pot, which we win 66% of the time. We don't have to put any more money in when he calls so:

EV(he calls) = (.66)*(£92) = £60.72

So if he calls, it's almost the same... Not a big difference. Personally I'd take the fold even if we gained some EV, for the lower variance. But also, doubt we necessarily get him to do what we want?

Edit: Missed the initial raise to £4, so I had to fix some numbers. Should all be right now.

Yeah I think I was including his calling to make percentages easier.

Yep I am sure he will do exactly as I asked. Id been chatting to him for a while and as I said hes a high roller so the money wasnt particularly important. He had also offered it to another guy who asked for the call and got it.

The reason I posted was because I think its fairly close, so would like to see everyones opinion.

K, if you're pretty confident he's doing what you ask then sure.

Also, not to get snobby or anything, but it's not an opinion-based question. If all the given assumptions are correct then it's a pure EV question. Granted, I'm not doing an EV equation at the table, which is why I would just want him to fold. If it's that close, I prefer lower variance.

Tell him to fold then offer to do a coin flip for your stack.

If he's any good, then no, he's not. You're giving him information about your hand.

Well he was... I asked him to call and he did, with a shit hand.

Okay so did you win or did he suck out????

As irrelevant as it is, he won. Just wondered what people thought we should do, cos I think maths wise it's fairly close.
