So I was at a local home game playing some .50/1 and I was in late position with AK o/s. The villain is one of the better players who cares about his play. 2 callers, then a raise to $4, a fold, reraise to $14, I call, everyone else folds. Flop comes 10d Jd x. He bet's out ten $10. I figure around 37 in the pot, I'll call. Turn is the Ad. I notice he makes a face, but over-exaggerated. He bets out $20. I think for awhile. I was having a rough time putting him on a hand, but I figured it was pocket queens or kings with a diamond. So I put him to the test and put all the chips in. He thinks for a few seconds and calls. Rockets. river is a blank. Just curious if anyone had any thoughts on how it played out.

I'd like to know what you mean by putting him to the test when you bet everything you had. Were you expecting worse hands to call.

Terrible. He can't call 2nd pair. Just call and let him hand you chips when he does this with AQ and down.

To Kruger. Not really. I felt there were enough chips in the pot that the times he'd fold versus the times he'd call would be profitable. I would not put it past him to make a bluff on this kinda board.
Aleksei. Duely noted.

That doesn't make it a profitable move. You win less chips than if you call and pick up another possible bluff and lose more than if you call two streets vs. a better hand. So it's minus EV in either case.

If you put him on a combo draw here, you should just call and call river when the straight or flush doesn't come in. Your hand isn't strong enough to get it all in, so exercise pot control.

What you did with your hand was turn it into a bluff - you repped diamonds so you could have possibly forced out stronger hands, but obviously forcing out better than TPTK is hard, and it didn't work.

What are the stack sizes , do you even have fold equity , coz your turning a showdown hand into a bluff.

u said that he is a solid player, he is 3betting so expect him to have a good hand 10+ AJ+, on the flop u r only beating one hand of his range and thats AQ, on turn ok u r betting 2more hands, so your beatting 3out of 8 handsoof his range that doesnt worth a raise all in when your 62,5% a looser.

I love the 'put him to the test' ahahaa.

I hate the shove on turn unless you had the K diamonds in which it's a aggressive but understandable move.

I'd probably fold the turn unless you have the K of diamonds. You pretty much did the worst play by raising the turn because he is essentially already committed...and he also made a face (unlikely to be geniune, so he is more likely to have a strong hand). Secondly, he is betting onto a pretty scary board, as the turn completes the flush and possible broadway draws, which indicates either A. He has a very strong hand himself or B. He is just barreling away. Your raise folds out those bluffs (however small a percent of the time he is bluffing there is up to you, probably not a profitable play given the pot size, because it is less likely opponent would be triple barreling in a huge pot) and leaves you facing very strong hands. Given that all you have is top pair, this is a pretty easy fold on the turn.

Looking back at the way I played this. Wow. That is just terrible. Thank you all for the advice. Ridicule was completely deserved. Thank you if you see this!
