That doesn't make it a profitable move. You win less chips than if you call and pick up another possible bluff and lose more than if you call two streets vs. a better hand. So it's minus EV in either case.
If you put him on a combo draw here, you should just call and call river when the straight or flush doesn't come in. Your hand isn't strong enough to get it all in, so exercise pot control.
What you did with your hand was turn it into a bluff - you repped diamonds so you could have possibly forced out stronger hands, but obviously forcing out better than TPTK is hard, and it didn't work.
