Villain is sort of a solid player, reasonably tight and aggresive.
I put him on A-Js, A-Qo, AA or 88

I think you are pot committed here and have to call. Can you really consider folding a set for $30.54 more into a pot of $156.46? I can't.

Thanks. Yes that is what I thought / hoped. Obviously I got a beat as villain showed set with 8... Got me thinking whether I should not have check raised on the turn. But thought I had him so wanted to maximize the pot and pretending a semi bluff bet on the flop by checking the turn.

It would most definitely be a call considering the range of hands he could have and the hands that beat you aren't many. Glad to see someone did the math for me in a previous comment. Tough beat that he had 8's, but can't do much about a set over set situation..
