your hand is 7h7d7s Qh 6d

board must be paired for a full house to be possible

you use 2 and only 2 cards in your hand, 3 cards on the board

don't bet 40% of pot with vulnerable hands.if you're willing to stack off 2nd set, bet pot.

move down in stakes

don't post dead blinds

Aaah shit, thought I could just choose best 5 of 9 cards. Never played Omaha before so figured I'd just try and keep people in pot with small bet with my full house (that wasn't a full house apparently lol)

So a set isn't good in PLO? Guess I shouldn't go from NLHE turbo sit n go to 100BB deep cash PLO. Also I just played a table that happened to have a seat free, didn't really think about the stake.

So I was ahead till the river, I was pretty pleased with myself till I saw the pot being shipped to him with a flush.

my bad, Qd is on the board

a sets is just a drawing hand. it's nice that you have a blocker to QQ but you are a healthy underdog on the flop to 9865 with 2 diamonds.

Believe it or not this is one time when I would recommend some play money games.
It doesn't matter that they're rubbish, (players take the tourneys a little more seriously) but it will give you a little while to get in the mindset of playing 2 and only 2 of your hole cards (you'll want to only include one sometimes too, to begin with) and give you the chance to see a good few hands to see what wins and what is definitely not worth pursuing
Sets can win btw on dry boards

Not a bad idea. Carbon used to have OH freerolls, not sure if they still do.

Nothing like thinking you have the nut str8 and then realize you need 3 of your cards to fill the gap. (That was from my first time too, even though I knew the rules, the mind set wasn't there yet.)

I now know the rules and yet again I thought I'd made a full house on the river. I put the guy on the flush draw, when it was completed he bet I raised, he re-raised, I shoved, he called. As the pot was shipped to him it dawned on me that I'd done it again. The river was disastrous, I thought I was going to get paid off form the nut flush when I filled up on river, only to realise I couldn't use both 10's in my hand as well as a 3.

I don't think PLO is my game, I have two aces in my hand and all I could think about was getting it all in on a dry flop. He'd hit a set and beat me all the way.I'm just glad not everyone buys in for the full amount or I'd be down 3 buy-ins today alone lol

Your still thinking the holdem way.. it takes time to adjust.
I started 2 months ago playing FR PLO and O8
I still don't know what I am doing but I am learning, my stakes 1-2c and 2-4c ...$5.00 buy ins...I'm learning :D

PLO is a really swingy game. The hands that win are vastly better on average than hold'em. You can almost assume that there is a full house (possibly quads) if the board is paired and someone is betting into you and your flush, straight or two pair. It is a very hard game to get used to, especially if you are new to poker.

The starting hands are really different as well. AA49 rainbow for example is pretty bad. Sure you have Aces but what else? Nuttin. You want 4 cards that work together well. AAKQ double suited, for example, where the AK is suited and the AQ is suited.

I'm not super skilled in PLO so I don't know a whole lot about it. Just that it is harder, in some ways, than hold'em. Maybe you could look around online for PLO strategy if you really want to play it. I would start with something with less variance though.

don't feel alone. It gets everybody when they first start Omaha coming from holdem.

Hi/lo is a lot diffrent then regular omaha. Good chance your playing for half a pot where the low hand can improve to win the whole pot.

The board was paired. The board has a pair of 3's. In my hand I had 3,10,10,K. I think that was where the problem arose
