So you'll bluff a 4-way pot on a wet board, but you won't hit the bet pot for value with the 2nd/3rd nuts on a wet board?

Seriously put some action in somewhere... as played you're never getting your $10 stack in by the river unless someone also has 8's full.

This hand pre-flop is kind of marginal, we can probably muck it and not feel bad about it. On the flop, we hit the underfull, and against these players we'll be looking to get stacks in (against smarter competition I'd play it more cautiously, because you really could only expect action from QQxx, but here at .05/.10, all trips will get it in here, AAxx will probably play, etc). There's no way you'll get stacks in if you don't raise on the flop or turn. It's nearly criminal to slowplay this much in PLO. Srsly.

As played, villain could have 99xx for a better full house (QQ/JJ also give him better boats, I'd expect a raise on flop/turn with those hands though), but he could also have a straight that he thinks is good since you've really underrepped your FH, so we should at least call. Any read we have would sway our decision towards either flatting/jamming.

If he did have 99xx, then I hope you understand how terrible it is to slowplay here and in PLO in general. We really don't have a ton of equity with our FH, so we still can't afford to give free cards, and almost never are we so far ahead that we should slowplay. Next time, play it fast on the flop, there's only one hand that is straight up beating us at that point.

Yeah, flopping the underfull (888QQ) can be a very costly hand if you run into the overfull (88QQQ). However, I think you were safe to assume that he didn't have it by the way that he played.

The point remains that slowplaying is terrible in PLO. He almost didn't get paid off, he was very fortunate that you also had a big hand. And you should think the same way-- to get paid off, you have to build the pot on the early streets.

I was thinking that the whole time but I had it in the back of my mind that he had it....

And he did.

Thanks for the info.

He had QQxx.
Stop being results oriented. Your opponent has a range of hands, not one particular hand. You want to take the action that maximizes value from your opponent's entire range. Here, there are plenty of other hands with an 8 that will pay you, overpairs, and some other draws (9TJX). Take the action that gets the most out of your opponent's range.

^^ this, it just so happened he had the top of his range this time. You were ahead of his range as a whole. Sometimes his range is more narrow, but here I'd say it's pretty wide.
