there are not too many hands that beat you on that flop. In fact there are exactly 2. Trip Jacks and Trip 8's. On the turn a few gut shot straight draws come in, but is he really going to be calling a raise with a gutshot? I doubt it.

I think most likely he has a Jack with a big kicker and doesn't like being bullied off a hand.

Value bet.

Regardless of whether he has you beat or is behind, the villain's checking to you on the turn would have been the standard play since you showed so much initiative with your flop raise. On the turn, the only hands that beat you are Q9, 79 (neither of which he's likely to have called your raise on the flop with... unless he's really fishy) or any set. Villain does have a rather low PFR%; do you think he would have 3-bet JJ pre-flop? If so, we may be able to rule that out as well. The hands he may have that don't have you beat include AJ, KJ, QJ, JT, and (arguably less likely) T9s and 67s (depending on how much he likes to chase his OESDs). I'd value bet and consider it cooler if he does have us beat.

Checking back this turn is awful - just get it in whilst you're (likely) ahead.
