Villian Stats (VPIP/PFR/AF): 26/7/1.8

Hi guys I played this hand yesterday and would like to know if you could possibly get away from TPTK in this spot.

Villain (MP1) $7.96 - VP:26 PFR:7 AF:1.8 W:36|50 STL: 3B:8| CB:100|0 N:4.96 hands:46
Hero (MP2) $9.10 - VP:18 PFR:15 AF:3.5 W:25|0 STL:|100 3B:0| CB:100| N:-8.86 Hands:40

Pre Flop: Hero (MP) with A:spade: K:spade:

P7(UTG) calls 0.10, Villain(MP1) calls 0.10, Hero(MP2) raises 0.50, P1(LP) calls 0.50, P2(LP) folds, P3(CO) folds, P4(BTN) folds, P5(SB) folds, P6(BB) folds, P7(UTG) calls 0.40, Villain(MP1) calls 0.40

Flop: 7:heart: K:club: J:diamond: (4 players) $2.15 in pot

P7(UTG) checks, Villain(MP1) checks, Hero(MP2) bets 1, P1(LP) folds, P7(UTG) folds, Villain(MP1) raises 5.15 Hero???

Villain is a decent player "def not a fish" so I only see him doing this with 77, JJ, and KJ.
KK and AA highly unlikely because he would have open raised with those. He could have Q T but I haven't seen him play draws aggressively before. The 3 bet is pretty strong > 5x so it seems like villain has a set or 2 pair worst case scenario.

Your thoughts are highly appreciated!

I don't think you have a good enough hand sample on villain to make any decisions about his play really, but what you do have shows him to be just flatting a bit too often maybe? Which is further demonstrated by his play in this hand. He flat opens and then flats your raise.

I think pre-flop here is fine.

As played, I think his check/raise line here is usually pretty strong. Assuming I'm right and he likes to call, I don't think he's doing this with many draws. I'd expect to see 77's or JJ'd often I think.

Frustrating though.

The size of his bet looks super bluffy, almost like he wants a fold...not sure he would bet that high if he had a set unless he thought you were a drooler

Well you have telegraphed strength from the start and he's saying he can beat you, so in the absence of any specific reads i'd fold and take a note on him for the way he played it. You pretty much analysed this yourself, I don't think you are missing anything, if you decide to carry on you are both pot committed to its fold or all in.. The size of the raise is a bit suspicious but he must understand you are pretty strong and is probably figuring you would pay him off.

its a fold, he's got 77 like all the time here given how many people are in the hand still to act and he STILL wants to raise.

have you saw any previous hand where he dod same thing limp/flat pre? would he limp with JJ 77? he might have KJ as you said and do that action but if he does i dont see him as a good player imo with that action, anyway i would fold flop but i would take a note on that action pre and post flop and try to see the pattern in future...

If you can accurately pinpoint your opponents range to crush yours, then it's a fold, regardless of how other people think. You are the one who made the reads, so you will have to trust them. Whether they are accurate or not is a completely different story, however, you have to fold if you think villain only does this with such a strong range, to an accurate degree.

Sounds like you narrowed his range based on your reads. If that's his range, then you need to insta muck.
