Villian Stats (VPIP/PFR/AF): 11/6/1

Hero is 11/6 after 50 hands. Haven't seen him get to showdown yet. MP2 was a bit of a goose and I thought that he could give me a bit more value.

I want to know what mistakes you think I made in this hand, pre flop through to the turn.

Also, as played, bet the river or check behind?

I think you played the hand alright. UTG+1's bet sizing on the flop looks a lot like he was just cbetting his missed over cards. When he check/calls the turn, its likely he has a draw of some sort plus his overs. That being said, there isn't anything in his range that you can get value from on the river, so check behind there.

Bleh, so hard to play small pair hands for value. I've got a couple of things that strike me:

1) I kinda want to fold the flop. UTG has a tight range preflop, and his range still beats us on this flop even though we've flopped a pair.

Board: 2s 3s 7d
59% { 88+, ATs+, KQs, AKo (top 6%) }
41% { 8h7h }

Now add in the fact that MP2 can easily have something, and I just don't really like our hand that much. This whole hand is gross.

If anything, I think I might raise the flop, rep sets & combo draws, and see if we can't get some of the nit's range to fold. But this is 10NL, and getting strong ranges to fold is usually a mistake, so that's not really a great option either.

I like a flop fold.

2) The turn sucks, because we're still in the exact same predicament. I think I'd bet ~$1.60, setting my price for showdown & protecting my hand from the equity that their likely over cards have. Also, we may get spades/45/A5 type stuff to draw, so there's a little value in a turn bet. And since the UTG player checked, I suppose its less likely they have an over pair. Its still not a good spot, and checking behind to draw at an 8 or 7 is also a fine plan.

3) Deffo check behind the river.

4) You can also consider folding preflop. I'm not sure how much implied odds hands like 76s have.

It depends very much on the reads you have on him. First of all, does he usually cbet? If he only cbets a small percentage, I agree with c9h13no3, just fold on the flop. He probably has an overpair and, even if he didn't, you're not playing 78s to build a pot with a lousy pair of sevens while guessing if you're ahead or not. If he cbets a lot, I agree with the call on the flop, but then just try to check it down unless you saw him fold the turn before after cbetting. Don't worry about looking weak, if he bets the river let him have it.

With the way the hand was played, you have to check the river, it's a typical situation where no hands that you beat will call (you haven't seen him go to showdown yet, this is not the kind of player who'll call with ace-high) and no hands that beat you will fold.
