Call against anyone but a nit, against this guy snap call, you can rule out sets.

He has QJ but he's so loose and aggro he's sticking it in with a huge assortment of stuff like AT/A3 and various pair + gutter hands like JT/QT/KQ and Q9ss/J9ss etc.

+1

Good sizings on earlier streets as well. Always remember that pot sized bets induce sillyness also. This is an outstanding smiley :ridinghor

I'm calling 99% of the time. Cooler if he had KK or AA

Looks like a fairly standard call to me. I've seen people do something like this with TPWK and flush draws so might have to dodge some cards.

I think a more interesting question would be if we only had TPTK (say the flop was Queen high instead of the King) and the turn brought the Ace. Do you still call the shove in that spot?

Although I would also call here with TPTK, from my own experience I seem to overvalue top pair, top kicker and lose a ton of big pots with it. I still find it almost impossible to fold TPTK at micro levels unless there is an obvious straight or flush draw.

I guess my biggest leak when holding TPTK, is losing to flopped sets. People tend to slowplay these and I get burnt way too much it seems. Any suggestions with improving my ability to "put my opponent on a set"?

Very few opponents you can come across that you can put on a set exactly. Look at their calling/raising range If they raise 1% pre and flop comes 863 you can discount their range containing a set, look at board texture and opponenets tendancies, form a range based on information then work out how much equity you have against that range. If opponents stars betting you then know if you have enough equity against his range. You're rarely going to put a fairly unknown player exclusively on a set.

Oh and at micros if a fairly passive player takes the baluga line on a dry board their range is very heavily weighted towards sets.

Check call on flop then check raise on turn thens to be a huge hand. A relatively large raise tends to be a set while a flush or str tends to raise smaller. But it's also player-dependent. (I play 4NL)

I've tried that line to bluff some guys occasionally, since I play pretty passive it works most of the time.Though the time I failed the other guy had TPTK.
