$10 NLHE Full Ring: A9 two pair on flop. Fold on river from 2-barrel shove. Bad fold?

Hi all. this is my first hand analysis post and thought this would be a good one as I have no idea if this was a bad play or not. Haven't gone through the hand too much myself. However before I post the hand I should show you something that happened before as this my have been a factor:

CO: $9.44
BTN: $10.55
SB: $12.89
BB: $10.00
UTG: $10.50
UTG+1: $10.00
Hero (MP1): $9.28
MP2: $9.90

Pre Flop: ($0.15) Hero is MP1 with 9d 9h
UTG raises to $0.30, 1 fold, Hero calls $0.30, 3 folds, SB raises to $1.40, 1 fold, UTG calls $1.10, Hero calls $1.10

Flop: ($4.30) 7d 2s Ad (3 players)
SB checks, UTG checks, Hero checks

Turn: ($4.30) 2h (3 players)
SB checks, UTG bets $2, Hero raises to $7.88 all in, SB folds, UTG folds

Note the original 3-better (pre-flop) is the same villian in the next hand. I showed my 99 afterwards.

Shortly after:

BB: $10.00
UTG: $10.84
UTG+1: $11.88
MP1: $3.15
MP2: $10.00
Hero (CO): $14.90
BTN: $9.75
SB: $11.57

Pre Flop: ($0.15) Hero is CO with 9h Ah
UTG raises to $0.30, 3 folds, Hero calls $0.30, 3 folds

Flop: ($0.75) As 9d 5d (2 players)
UTG bets $0.54, Hero calls $0.54

Turn: ($1.83) Qh (2 players)
UTG bets $1.31, Hero calls $1.31

River: ($4.45) 4s (2 players)
UTG bets $8.69 all in, Hero folds

Was wondering if you think this is a donk fold or not. At the time I was thinking I can only beat AK or AJ here and its very unlikely hes 2 barrel shoving with those. I didn't want to call and see AQ or a set. let me know your thoughts.

P.S I know there is a good argument for not being in either pots to begin with :p

Wtf.

My main thought is that you're too loose preflop. Calling the 3-bet to set mine likely isn't profitable. Same with calling UTG raises with A9s.

Don't show your cards when they fold, and don't fold A9 on the one nut board you can make other than a flush.

It's a raise, not a 3-bet. We have position with a hand that still has plenty of equity vs an UTG open.
This is not just for setmining.

The first hand was fine, imo. I'd have folded to the turn bet, but meh, we got him to fold TT-KK.

A9s: fold preflop. You're asking to be dominated.

As played, DO NOT FOLD THIS RIVER!
All draws whiffed, and he could be overbet-shoving as a bluff with KK/JJ, or think his AK is good.

^ This.

Thanks for input so far. I agree should have folded pre-flop anyway.

I was wondering: how do people end up calculating "you would be good here x% of the time" or "a call here is not profitable" etc. Do you just use an equity calculator or something?

Yes. I use Equilab for instance.

You input what you think villain's range is, you input your hand, and you calculate your equity.
After a while, this'll all become second nature and you'll have a good idea of where you are in the hand without the need to calculate it.

Too lose pre-flop. I'd suggest punching in A9s vs an UTG range and see how you're doing. I use and recommend this one:

As played in the second hand, yeah he's betting large and then over shoving the river after you showed a bluff. Unless you really think he's steaming I'd find a fold there too.
